Hanuman the monkey god, one of the central characters in the ancient Hindu epic
Ramayana, is considered a symbol of devotion. Like Hanuman, Ganesh Bahadur Damal
was taught to be caring and giving as a young boy growing up in Nepal, where
most people believe in Hinduism.
猴神哈努曼是印度古史诗《罗摩衍那》的中心人物之一，被视为忠诚献身的象征。像哈努曼一样，在尼泊尔长大的贾内什·巴哈杜尔·达马尔(Ganesh Bahadur Damal)从小就受到教导要关心他人，勇于奉献，那里的人们大多信奉印度教。

Now 27 and studying in the medical school at China Three Gorges University, in Yichang, Hubei province,Damal is putting into practice what he learned in the past.
现年27岁的达马尔目前就读于湖北省宜昌市三峡大学，他正在将过去所学付诸实践。
Damal was born in Bajhang, western Nepal, and is the youngest child in his
family. He is also the one who has been away from home the longest, having spent
eight years in China studying medicine.
达马尔出生在尼泊尔西部的巴江，是家中最小的孩子，也是离家时间最长的，他曾在中国学医8年。

Apart from studying diligently,Damal spends most of his weekends doing
volunteer work in Yichang. He has been a caregiver in hospitals, directed road
traffic, and most recently went to clean a stretch of the Yangtze River bank
with a team of volunteers, where they attracted public attention.
除了刻苦学习，达马尔周末的大部分时间都在宜昌做义工。他在医院里当过护工，指挥过道路交通，最近还和一群志愿者一起去清理长江的一片河段，而这次活动也引起了民众的关注。
The more than 200 international students at China Three Gorges University have
organized various activities.The foreign student volunteer group was
established in early 2011.
三峡大学留学生志愿者服务队共有200多名成员，组织了各种有意义的活动。该组织成立于2011年初。

Damal joined it in 2013. By the end of that year, he was elected the group’s
president. His friends say his nomination as president was not a surprise as he
always plays an active role in voluntary activities.
达马尔于2013年加入该组织，年底，他当选为队长。他的朋友表示，对达马尔提名为队长这件事并不感到意外，因为他一直都积极参加志愿活动。

“We have a lot of volunteer experience together, and he seems to have a strong incentive to be a volunteer,”said Belal Tamjeed, former president of the International Students Association at the university.
“我们一起参加过很多志愿者活动，他对于志愿者的活动很有热情，”该校国际学生协会(International Students Association)前主席贝拉尔·塔姆杰德(Belal Tamjeed)说。
“He is good at organizing related activities.”
“他善于组织相关活动。”
As president of the foreign student volunteer group, Damal organizes meetings
every week to discuss the next volunteer activity. His group has attracted more
than 100 international students in the university to sign up as volunteers. To
date, Damal has organized more than 200 volunteer activities.
作为留学生志愿者服务队的队长，达马尔每周都会组织会议讨论下一次的志愿活动。他的组织吸引了该校100多名留学生加入志愿者队伍。迄今为止，达马尔已经组织了超过200场的志愿活动。

“Leading a group of people is never an easy thing to do, but I do enjoy helping
others, and my teammates have always believed in me so I need to persist,” Damal
said. “After all, I am doing something I have dreamed of since I was a child.”
“领导一群人从来都不是一件容易的事，但我喜欢帮助别人，我的队友一直都很信任我，所以我应该坚持下去，”达马尔说，“毕竟，我正在做一件从小就梦想的事。”
During his childhood, Damal was influenced by his family to help those in need.
在达马尔的童年时代，他受家庭的影响，向那些需要帮助的人伸出援手。
“When I was young, my mother was always ready to help others,” he said. “I
remember she once gave my favorite pants to a homeless guy. I was a little sad
at that time, but now I not only understand her, but also resemble her more and
more as the years go by.”
“我小的时候，我妈妈总是乐于助人，”他说，“我记得有一次她把我最喜欢的裤子送给了一个无家可归的人。那时我有点难过，但现在我不仅理解了她，而且随着时间的推移，我越来越像她了。”
In order to have a better command of Mandarin, Damal attended classes with
Chinese students on his own accord. As many Chinese students gave him lots of
advice and help in his studies, he wanted to make some contribution to Chinese
society in return, and found that volunteering is a great platform.
为了更好的掌握普通话，达马尔主动和中国学生一起上课。许多中国学生在他的学习中给了他很多帮助，所以他想为中国社会做一些贡献作为回报，他发现志愿活动是一个很好的平台。
“What they do may seem like little things to us, but as a volunteer team made up
of foreign students, they set an example to all students through their efforts
and persistence,” said Zhang Baolin, secretary of the Youth League Committee at
the university’s medical school.
该校医学院团委书记张宝林表示：“在我们看来，他们所做的似乎微不足道，但作为一支由留学生组成的队伍，他们通过自己的努力和坚持为所有学生树立了榜样。”
Damal expressed his admiration for China’s development. “Since I came here, I find that China is changing every year,” he said. “China has bid farewell to hunger, shortage and poverty, and I hope someday my country can do the same. Actually, the goal of the Chinese dream can apply to any developing country.”
达马尔对中国的发展表示钦佩。“自从我来到这里，我发现中国每年都在变化，”他说，“中国已经告别了饥饿、资源短缺和贫困，我希望有一天我的国家也能实现这些。事实上，中国梦的目标可以适用于任何一个发展中国家。”
In Ramayana, Hanuman helped build a bridge across the sea in order to reach
Lanka and save Sita. Similarly, Damal hopes to build a “bridge” between Nepal
and China by volunteering, connecting people of the two countries.
在《罗摩衍那》，哈努曼建造了一座横跨海洋的桥梁，以到达斯里兰卡拯救西塔。同样，达马尔希望通过志愿服务，将两国人民连接起来，在两国之间架起一座“桥梁”。
“One child, one teacher, one pen can change the world,” he said. “I believe
small things can also make a big difference.”
“一个孩子，一位老师，一支笔就可以改变世界，”他说，“我相信小事也能带来巨大的变化。”
“Maybe someday, we will see Chinese volunteers help clean up river banks in
Nepal,” he added, with a laugh.
“也许有一天，我们会看到中国志愿者帮助尼泊尔清理河岸，”他笑着说。
积小善，立大德
在宜昌，志愿服务活动，
已成为展示城市文明的一道亮丽风景。
