From pottery classes to island day trips, there's always something to keep kids active and happy in Shanghai, and that's even more the case this weekend. Children's Day is right around the corner (Sat 1 Jun) and as always, there's plenty to keep the young ones entertained. From free ice cream to cooking classes, here are some of the best things going on in the city to celebrate the holiday.

Balloonatics is the comedy show for anyone crazy about balloons – it's silly, it's noisy, it's energetic and it's got plenty for adults as well as kids.

Dinner Buffet at Atrium Café

Kids Cooking Class at Big Bamboo

Celebrate Children's Day with a pasta-making class. It’s a great way for your kids to make friends and develop motor skills, and they’ll love the achievement of cooking their own lunch. Spots are limited, call 021 5030 1779 to book.

Free Ice Cream at Xibo

All kids get a free scoop of ice cream on the house when dining in at Xibo on Sat 1 Jun. Available at all Xibo locations, including the one at the Spring Center.

BFC Weekend Adoptions

BFC (Best Friends China) is organising a Children's Day pet adoptions at The Place in Hongqiao. Expect a market of pet supplies and a variety of fun activities for your lovely canines.

'UnFrozen' party with Groove Shanghai

Groove Shanghai will be holding a Frozen-themed brunch for children aged four to nine years old. Dress them up in their favourite character and join in the fun – they'll get to meet their favourite Frozen characters, get their faces painted and more.

Shanghai Brew House is hosting a free pizza-making session for the mini chefs out there. Its top chef will teach the kids how to make dough and arrange toppings before popping them in the oven. Kids get to taste their own creations. Spots are limited – RSVP at 3131 7192.
