本作品关乎我对生命的哲学思考。
我拍的是人体的一部分,一些刚刚离开鲜活人体的一部分,其中大部分是医疗手术中切下的器官,然后,在影像基底位置放上了一根标尺。仅此而已。
我慎重地选择了黑白胶片,平柔光线。试图尽量避免给观者带来视觉刺激,以引导观者思路突破其视觉表观,进入其内涵。
在此,我并不想对我本人的作品意图做出过多文字阐释。
一来,这些影像十分简单,似乎要表达的内容一看便知,清晰明了。
可是,这些影像所要表达的内容又似乎十分复杂。我曾和一些不同领域的朋友做过探讨,包括摄影师、医生、作家、科学家、考古学者甚至哲学家,他们对这组作品的观感都各不相同,甚至南辕北辙。
这让我对文字阐释更加畏惧。
所以,我想,我本人闭嘴,把思考留给观者,这也许是我最好的选择。
不过最近,在我制作本组展览作品的这段时间里,有几则社会新闻让我想到了“大体”。
一则是,2012,河北一位农民因没钱做手术,在家自己锯掉了患病的右腿;
一则是,2013,广西一年近八旬的老者因患癌症,竟自己“动手术”,切开自己的腹部,把肠子拿出来查看,并把其中一截疑似病灶的肠子切掉扔进下水道,最终,因流血过多不幸身亡;
一则是,一位1982年毕业的大学生披露,他大学同班同学在京工作30多人,现有8人患癌,而毕业出国就业者20余人无一癌症。
这些生生死死的事,时常在我们身边发生着,让人伤感,也让人思考。
所以,我又想,“大体”除了关乎哲学,也关乎其它。
Specimen:Human Organs under a ruler

This work is about my philosophical thinking about life.
What I’ve shot is a part of human body, vivid and just removed from the fresh body. Most of them are the organs that have been removed during the surgical operations and what I’ve done is just putting a scale on the substrate position of the image. And that’s all.
I would choose carefully a black-and-white film in smooth and soft light in an attempt to protect the viewers from strong visual stimulation and guide them to break through the visual appearance in their minds to find the connotation.
Herein, I won’t explain the intention of my works in any words.
The reason is that these images are very intuitive. You will understand the content at the first sight of them, which are so clear and understandable.
However it seems that what these images would try to express is very complex. I had discussed this with my friends in different fields, including the photographers, doctors, writers, archaeologists and even the philosophers. All of them have different opinions with this series of pictures and even some of them have the totally opposite opinions.
Actually all of these have made me in awe of the literal interpretation even more.
Therefore, I’d like to shut up and leave space to the viewers for their consideration and this might be my best choice.
However recently, during my preparing for this series of exhibiting works, some social news has reminded me of “specimen”.
The first news was that in 2012, a peasant in Hebei Province had cut off his sicken right leg due to the lack of money required for a surgical operation.
The second news was that in 2013, there was a nearly 80-year-old man in Guangxi province having “performed an operation” by himself after he was found afflicted with cancer. He cut his abdomen and checked his intestines by taking them out and finally threw a small section of intestine with the suspected lesions into the sewer after he cut it off. Unfortunately he had bled to death in the end.
And another piece of news was disclosed by a college student, who had graduated in 1982. He reflected that there were more than 30 college classmates working in Beijing and now 8 of them had suffered from cancer, while none of the more than 20 classmates, who had worked overseas after the graduation suffered from cancer.
All these things about death and living have always happened around us. They have saddened us and at the same time aroused our consideration.
Therefore I do feel that “specimen” has not only connected to the philosophy but also something else.
