IB – The Ultimate Pathway to Excellence

Our students undergo a unique educational pathway from Preschool to Senior School, culminating in a two-year rigorous and internationally recognised International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). 

SSIS has been producing excellent results consistently for the past 18 years. Last academic year, two students attained perfect 45-point scores, while seven more earned the impressive final score of 44 points. There was an outstanding average of 39.2 points.

Recently, the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) completed its five-year evaluation at our campus. The evaluation is a standard process that all IB-accredited schools go through to assess the strengths of the school and the areas that require focus. The IB Evaluation Team congratulated the school for consistently and successfully implementing the IBDP for 18 years and for a very well-organised programme development plan that will take place over the next four years.

In the conclusion of the IB Evaluation Visit, the findings of the reports are shared with the school community. The findings focus on the strengths of the programme and the possible areas for improvement for the school to consider. This can initiate important discussions within the school community and provide a clear roadmap of how the school will develop in the years to come. 

SSIS’s IB team said that 18 years of IB meant that the teachers truly understand the programme. We also continuously send staff for professional development. Knowing the students well also adds to the success of IBDP, as well as applying the programme to the school’s context, which was noted by the IBO.

We get to know the students and their desires and where they want to go in the future, and then offer them choices. There are certain choices that IBDP gives students and we help students best navigate those choices to meet their future wishes, and then empower them. Beyond that, we build a team of teachers to support those students to reach their academic goals and constantly strive for excellence. 

The IBO’s report stated that SSIS consistently focuses on students’ growth and we create a safe and supportive culture. This is because our students are extremely kind to each other and they create a supportive environment in which we carry through the IB programme. One of the ways this is demonstrated is through the Creativity, Active, Service (CAS) component of IB, which requires students to get involved in acts of service beyond the classroom.

The evaluation was a fantastic achievement and an opportunity to celebrate our achievements and how far we’ve come in the last five years. The evaluation committee clearly saw we have high quality teaching and learning throughout the Senior School. They saw a very supportive community based on their conversations with parents, students and teachers. It’s a nice present for our 25th anniversary.
