What does the Grad Committee do, and what are the positive outcomes of being on this committee?
The Graduation Committee is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing activities for the seniors. Joining the graduation committee can lead to several positive outcomes. For instance, things won’t always go your way. There will be a lot of times that you fall short or your decision could’ve been better. What matters is that you don’t let it bring you down. You learn from the experience and pick yourself up. Resilience is a highly admirable trait to have as a leader. You must learn to take on tasks and separate your emotions from the job. Serving on the committee also allows you to learn to juggle schedules, delegate tasks, and fulfill goals. It can be a lot to handle. That’s why a leadership skill you must focus on is time management. We all get the same 24 hours a day. It doesn’t matter if you only have three hours available today. What matters is how well you utilize those three hours. Leadership mastery is learning to choose the essential tasks, multitask effectively, and still have time to rest.
Becoming a graduation committee member is a stepping-stone toward an enriching future. It’s not just about making your college application look good. Student leaders are the future of our world.
Now is the time to develop yourself to serve others better. So, you should take this chance and make it count. Do what you can to continuously improve yourself.
What has been your favourite moments of being on the Grad Committee?
My favourite moments are being able to plan and discuss different ideas with our members. Currently, the grad committee is working on grad jackets, and I enjoy the process of designing them. Our committee always comes up with creative ideas to make our jackets trendy and unique. In addition, the grad jacket is an exceptional opportunity for Grade 12’s to bring diversity into our uniforms and is a piece of high school memory.
If you could give one piece of advice to future students on the Grad Committee, what would that be?
Remember that Grad Committee largely consists of listening to fellow classmates and Grad Committee members. Furthermore, collaborating well is another important part of being on the committee, as you must keep others’ opinions and thoughts in mind. For example, when creating the senior jackets, it is important to remember that others may have different views than yours for how they want it to look and that this is okay. Keep in mind that working as a team and coming to a consensus as a grade is integral to having a good and fun senior year.
