Now, Facebook is making it easier for organizations to fundraise and get donors involved in tangible ways through nonprofits.fb.com, a new site for nonprofits and NGOs.

The new site teaches nonprofits and activist individuals best practices on increasing awareness for their causes, making fundraising campaigns, and engaging people in charitable action with step-by-step guides. Groups and individuals can also connect with each other to learn successful tactics used by similar causes.

The Islamic State's English-language reach on Twitter has stalled in recent months amid a stepped-up crackdown against the extremist group's army of digital proselytizers, who have long relied on the site to recruit and radicalize new adherents, according to a study being released on Thursday.

Suspensions of English-speaking users affiliated with Islamic State from June to October 2015 have limited the group's growth and in some cases devastated the viral reach of specific users, according to the report from George Washington University’s Program on Extremism, which analyzed a list of accounts promoted by the militant group.

Facebook has launched a new feature in the UK to offer support to users at risk of taking their own lives.

The social network developed the Suicide Prevention tool with support from the Samaritans charity.

The tool works by asking users to flag and report posts from friends that cause concern. These posts will then be reviewed by a special team at Facebook, with help options sent to those the reviewers deem to be struggling.

It just got a lot harder to blame that embarrassing photo in your Instagram feed on a hacked account. Starting today, the mobile photo-sharing service confirmed that it will start introducing a two-factor authentication system to its app. That means even if someone knows your username and password, it’ll be nearly impossible for them to post pics or scan private accounts without flat-out stealing your phone.

The Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit organization that runs Wikipedia, has denied reports that it's building asearch engine to compete with Google. Recently leaked documents from a grant proposal submitted by Wikimedia last year show the company asking for preliminary funding of $250,000 to develop "the Knowledge Engine," a system for discovering reliable and trust worthy public information on the internet." However, a recent blog post from Wikimedia suggests that these plans have changed over time.

The Verge

A federal judge today ordered Apple to assist law enforcement with breaking into the iPhone owned by one of the San Bernardino shooters. According to court papers, Apple has declined to voluntarily provide technical help in accessing the iPhone 5c owned by Syed Farook, who killed 14 people at a health clinic in the California city on December 2nd alongside his wife Tashfeen Malik. That assistance doesn't involve stripping the device of its encryption or handing over the passcode, but does include help in discovering the iPhone's passcode through what are called "brute force" methods of decryption. The FBI are looking for relevant data on who the attackers were communicating with, potentially via iMessage, and who may have also helped plan the shooting.
