Monotype（蒙纳）公司将于2016年9月3日在同济大学设计创意学院举办“TypePro: Shanghai 2016”国际字体研讨会活动，届时著名的 Monotype GmbH 字体总监、《西文字体1,2》作者小林章先生（Akira Kobayashi）、Monotype 香港总设计师许大鹏先生（Robin Hui）和 Monotype 英国字体设计师大曲都市先生（Toshi Omagari）将会分享欧文、汉字和国内少数民族语言字体，背后的设计理念、构思、实作经验及字体设计师生活内的各种挑战；也邀请得六位上海、北京、香港知名设计师同场（神秘名单将会稍后公布），分享各自精彩的作品设计与对字体的独特观点；并会与小林章先生、许大鹏先生和大曲都市先生作进一歩的字体研讨。此外，“TypePro: Shanghai”活动也准备了三场工作坊，分别由小林章先生、许大鹏先生主理的西文中文作品检定，和 Monotype 香港总监秦德超先生（Ricky Chun）主理的字体版权和授权工作坊。

这次活动免费进场，亦会在9月5日于北京、9月8日于西安及9月10日于深圳巡回举行。

Type Pro: Shanghai 2016 brings Monotype’steam of type experts to Shanghai, initiating an exciting and meaningfulexchange between the World and Chinese designers.

Lead by Monotype GmbH’s Type Director AkiraKobayashi, Monotype Hong Kong Chief Designer Robin Hui and Monotype UK Type Designer Toshi Omagari, the experts from Monotype are going to share their experience from design concept and work experience on designing Latin, Chinese(Hanzi) and Chinese-minority script typefaces, as well as challenges of everyday life being type designers. We have also invited a list of remarkablecreative professionals who work in different part of the country (to bereleased soon), who are all representing remarkable works and thoughts behind their organisation in China. They will participate, in a focused session,discussing type and typography developments from different perspectives in China.

This activity is free and  will also be held at Beijing, Xi’an, Shen zhen on September 5, 8, 10, respectively.

小林章 Akira Kobayashi

Monotype GmbH 字体总监 /Monotype GmbH Type Director

毕业于东京武藏野美术大学，小林章于1983年加入写研公司，一家照相排字机制造商，担任字体设计师并开展其专业生涯。1989年他离开写研公司并到伦敦研习西洋书法和文字排印，并在1990回归日本时加入字游工房公司，参与冬青明朝体（Hiragino Mincho）和冬青黑体（Hiragino Gothic）的设计和数码化工作。从1993年到1997年间他为TypeBank公司工作，为旗下的日语数码字型设计西文字型搭配。1997年到2001他当上自由业字体设计师，期间他的原创字型得到好几项国际字体比赛殊荣。当2000年完成为Type Project旗下Axis日语字型的西文字搭配后，他在2001年移居到德国，并履任现在于Monotype（前Linotype）的职务。作为字体总监他负责监控内部字型设计的美感素质，并分别跟两位殿堂级设计师：Adrian Frutiger 和 Hermann Zapf 合作，替他们早期的字型设计进行现代化工作，为经典字型制作全新的数码诠释版本，在设计他自己的字型以外也为替企业制作客制字型。他也是欧洲、美国和亚洲各类型国际字体研讨会的常客，并担任多个著名国际字体设计大赛的评审委员。

Studied at Musashino Art University inTokyo, he began his career as a type designer at Sha-Ken Co., Ltd., aphototypesetter manufacturer, in 1983. In 1989 he left Sha-Ken to study calligraphy and typography in London. On his return to Japan in 1990, heentered Jiyu-Kobo, Ltd. and was involved in designing and digitizing theJapanese fonts Hiragino Mincho and Hiragino Gothic. From 1993 to 1997 he worked for Type Bank Co., Ltd., where he designed Latin alphabets to accompany thefoundry’s digital Japanese fonts. From 1997 to 2001 he was a freelance type designer and during this period won numerous international awards for hisoriginal typefaces. After completing the design of Latin alphabets to accompanyType Project’s Axis Japanese fonts in 2000, he moved to Germany in 2001 toassume his current position at Monotype, formerly Linotype. As type director hecontrols the aesthetic quality of in-house typefaces, and has collaborated withthe two prominent designers Adrian Frutiger and Hermann Zapf to modernize theirearlier type designs, creating digital interpretations of classic typefacefamilies for renovation, and designing corporate custom typefaces, besides making his own types. He is a frequent speaker at international type conferences and workshops in Europe, Americas and Asia, and serves as a jurymember in prestigious international typeface design competitions.

许大鹏 Robin Hui

Monotype 香港总设计师及生产经理 /Monotype Hong Kong Chief Type Designer and Production Manager

于 1988 年进入 Monotype 担任字体设计师至今。Robin 加盟 Monotype 前，曾担任专业排版师10年，累积了丰富的工作经验以及对中文字体的热情。多年工作中参与了众多字体的开发制作，包括知名的蒙纳黑、宋、楷等字体系列；自身的作品包括：M Ngai, M Windy, M Comic, M Razor, M Lady。现为香港分部总设计师及生产经理，负责多项字体设计及技术项目，包括了字体的压缩、在不同接口上的重现、优化方案。通过了蒙纳黑、蒙纳宋和蒙纳盈黑体的CJK伸延，Robin对不同地区汉字的差异，都有很深入的了解、丰富的经验。他现在帮助蒙纳公司，代表和参与于香港特别行政区中文接口谘询委员会内的工作。

Robin Hui joined Monotype Hong Kong as atype designer in 1988. Before joining Monotype, he worked 10 years as a professional typesetter where Robin gained his exposures on type, their usages and developed a strong passion on Chinese typography. In pursuance of his career on type design, he joined China Type Design, the type design subsidiaryof Monotype.

Robin involved in a large number of typedesign and development projects, including the famous Monotype Hei, Sung, Kaifamilies. Robin’s own creations include: M Ngai, M Windy, M Comic, M Razor, MLady… He is currently the chief designer and production manager of MonotypeHong Kong, responsible for a wide variety of type design and technology projects,including: compression, hinting and rendering control of typefaces acrossdifferent platform, on different display environments such as LCD and ePaper.

Robin’s involvement in extending M Hei, MSung and M Ying Hei to cover multiple Asian regions allows him accumulating extensive knowledge on writing variations of ideographs across different Asialocales. He is currently helping Monotype’s representation in the Chinese Language Interface Consultation Committee of Hong Kong SAR government.

大曲都市 Toshi Omagari

Monotype 字体设计师 / Monotype Type Designer

大曲都市（Toshi Omagari），日本生字体设计师。他在东京武藏野美术大学毕业后，便在2010至2011年间前往英国雷丁大学修读字体设计硕士深造课程，此后加盟英国Monotype当上全职字体设计师。他凭藉Marco字型获得Modern Cyrillic（现代西里尔语）大赛 2014 冠军，也在同年凭藉 Metro Nova 字型赢得纽约TDC Certificate of Excellence in Type Design 2014 大奖。他的最新作品是2015 年推出的 Neue Haas Unica。他也翻译很多不同的的字体相关资料成为日语，包括 Fred Smeijers 的《Counterpunch》，Doug Wilson的《Linotype: the film》，和 Georg Seifert 的 Glyphs 造字软件。

Toshi Omagari is a type designer borned inJapan. After graduating from Musashino Art University in Tokyo, he continuedhis study in typeface design at the University of Reading from 2010–2011. Sincethen, he has been working full-time as a typeface designer in Monotype UK. Hewon the Modern Cyrillic competition 2014 with Marco, and received TDC Certificate of Excellence in Type Design 2014 with Metro Nova. His latest worksis Neue Haas Unica released in 2015. He also translates typographical contentsof all kinds of media to Japanese, including: Fred Smeijers’s Counterpunch,Doug Wilson’s Linotype: the film, and Georg Seifert’s font editor Glyphs.
