As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Guanghua-Kellogg EMBA program (referred to as GK program) in 2024, we reflect on the journey from GK01 to GK10, where our esteemed GKers have consistently made a significant impact with low ego, both in China and on the global stage. Taking this opportunity, we are going to interview 10 distinguished alumni representatives in a special GK Alumni Talk Series. The interview will delve into the enduring legacy of the GK program, management insight, industry foresight, challenges and successes, etc.

Ten years, Ten People. These ten GKers will form a vivid picture of the GK community, which is also an interpretation of their profound impact on the era.

Highlighted in this talk, we are honored to have LIU Peng, an alumnus from GK02, join us. Serving as the Managing Director of Accenture Song, LIU Peng leads enterprises forward on the path of digital transformation with his profound industry insights and passion for innovative technology. He not only introduces cutting-edge technologies such as generative AI, spatial computing, Web3, and blockchain into enterprise practice, but also closely integrates them with the upgrading of local industries and social development in China, providing vitality and forward-looking perspectives for innovation in various fields.

WHO I AM

Hello, I'm LIU Peng from GK02. I'm a Managing Director at Accenture Song with over 20 years experience in digital transformation and global expansion. My career has been a journey of innovation, learning, and a deep commitment to making change to the enterprise and also developing people.

RIDE THE WAVE

The way of communicating will be changed by the new technology, but the nature of business will remain the same.

Will advertising disappear? Well, it's a great question. Generative AI is a big game-changer. We don't know what the end state will be so far because we are just probably at the beginning point of the generative AI change journey. In the past decade, the landscape of digital marketing has changed a lot, and still keeps evolving because of the latest wave of generative AI.

It’s just one example: if you wanted to plan a travel, in the past you would probably do some research on the internet, go to Ctrip, see how other people planned similar trips, and how their experiences were. But now, when generative AI comes out, it can be simple, like you can just give them a question and give them your scope, like how many days you want to stay there. Generative AI will give you recommendations.

So, it has already changed. In the past, the brand would do the advertisements on the websites. But now, it's kind of the question to them: how to make my brand part of the generative AI recommendations.

But I think there is one thing that will not be changed, at least in the current stage, and that is the needs of the brand, because they need to be known by their target customers. The way of communicating will be changed by the new technology. But the nature of the business will remain the same.

LEADERSHIP IN ACTION

A good leader leads the way. Otherwise, you are just a coordinator.

Sometimes you need to debate, sometimes you need to fight. But a good leader should lead the way. If you are the leader, you have to lead the way. Otherwise, you are not a leader, you are just a coordinator.

Along the way, you need to take care of your team and give personalized guidance to the different types of people, because different generations have different characters. And there is no single pattern that will apply to all.

I know I’m not young anymore, but I think it doesn't stop me from learning. I learn from the social network and learn from the young people. I think that will keep me feeling young as well. So be open-minded and learn from the young generation. I think that will be quite important. That's my tactic to do the culture-building and team-building.

GK IMPRINT

Joining the GK program was one of the best decisions I've made.

The GK program is a great combination of one of the best business schools in the US, courses originally from the Western system, together with the deep insights of the Chinese local economy and local society from Guanghua.

Professor ZHOU Li-An’s “The Political Economy of China” did a very deep study and analysis of the long history of China, to talk about how the economy and the political system are tied to each other. That one was very impressive and gave me a lot of new ways to think about the economy from different angles. So, it's kind of an eye-opening class for me.

I think that joining the GK program was one of the best decisions I’ve made.

More to Come

GK Alumni Talks

At the crest of the Industry 4.0 wave, we have witnessed the rise of artificial intelligence and the transformative power of digitalization. Generative AI is especially important because it goes beyond simple technological advances. It marks a change from AI that follows rules to intelligent systems that can create new content. LIU Peng, with his insightful practice, emphasizes that amidst the wave of technological innovation, the value of humans remains an unshakable core. He advocates for an open-minded approach to embracing new knowledge and encourages business leaders to boldly explore new pathways for the integration of technology and business.

Over a decade, a collection of ten remarkable individuals will converge to create a dynamic portrait of the GK alumni community. We eagerly anticipate the forthcoming insights from the GK Alumni Talks, as we collectively bear witness to the intellect and grace of our GK alumni.
