A 17-year-old maker ,we call him “Gou Dan”, from the transliteration of his English name Gordon. He is very fond of hand making who has hosted a number of projects,such as open source 3d printer, gesture control man-machine and so on. Gou Dan participatedin many maker marathon competitions and also help Fablab hold source hardwareworkshops. Fablab O has been running this course for three years already and its team is always refining it and adding new things to the program to shape it into the best and most effective learning experience.
The new edition features an updated program, with new exciting subjects and redesigned projects such as “How to make an Invention” and the “Electronic Design” class that lets student create their own electronic devices!

Shanghaino is a simplified Arduino clone, developed in Fablab O Shanghai. It allows students from elementary school to university to learn electronic production, PCB soldering, programming and prototyping a circuit in a fun and engaging way: they have to assemble their own device!
The kit has few and simple components, and in a short time it can be soldered and connected to the computer to start using it. It is fully compatible with the Arduino environment and it is perfect to teach programming.

The principal for teaching is hands-on learning: keeping the theory short but dense before continuing on practical applications. This cycle will be repeated several time during the day. Each student is required to bring his own laptop, in good working order, with a mouse and basic softwares installed.

He is a student from Shanghai Tech University and he had a problem: he wanted to take pictures of himself working on his projects... without using his hands! Thanks to the things he learnt during the FABO X Academy he was able to make a smart-headband with an integrated camera and a movement sensor: whenever he wants to take a picture he just need to move his head to a specific position and the camera will record photos and videos.

ADAM
Adam is a New Media Artist and he joined Fabo X Academy to learn how to use digital fabrication to bring his art to life. He had a clear idea for his final project and he pushed himself to the limit to complete it in one week. He started by 3D Scanning a roasted Beijing's duck and decomposed it into the pieces of a puzzle. Each block is made with a different material and a different manufacturing techniques, some of them so experimental it was the first time using them for the instructor as well!

CANGER
Canger is a high school student and since the first day he showed an incredible enthusiasm in the program! With no previous knowledge in any of the machines or in programming, he was able to make a rather wierd project: a skull with an exposed brain that lights up, follows you when you move and shines its red eyes at you! This might sound crazy, but it is a very complex project featuring ultrasonic sensors, a rotation mechanism, double electronic controls and advanced fabrication methods. Scary, fun, interesting!

Learn the basics of 2D Graphic and 3D Modeling software and start training on laser cutting and 3D printing. Understand the constraints and best practices to design objects for digital fabrication tools. Get used to move from design to prototype and back for improvements.

Design a multi-part name tag with engraved and scored element and press fit joints.

An introduction to the basic commands of a 3D modeling software and to the different 3D printing technologies. Learn the limitations of what can be printed and the workflow going from design to print. Analyze and debug printer errors. Design thinking, quickly going from idea to design to 3D printed prototype and then back to design.

CLASS 3. CNC MILLING, MOLDING & CASTING: MILL A MOLD AND CAST A CONCRETE COPY
Teaching the fundamentals of milling using the Roland milling machine to create 3D parts. Design a 3D surface, generate toolpaths and mill a negative mold of the model. Use casting techniques to make a concrete copy.

Introduction to electronic circuits and electronic components. Learn the basics of soldering with the “Shanghaino” kit, a simplified Arduino clone, and understand how it works. Introduction to the Arduino IDE development environment. Upload and test the first program.

Elaborate a final project proposal based on the research conducted in week-one. Learning how analog and digital ports work and how to add Input and Output (I/O) devices to the microcontroller. Make a prototype circuit using the Shanghaino PCB and I/O devices, write or modify a program and test it.

Complete the documentation and present thefinal project to the class.

CLASS 7. DESIGNTHINKING: HOW TO MAKE AN INVENTION.
To begin designing the final project thestudents will be introduced to Design Thinking techniques. First they willconduct a research about the field their product will live in, make abrainstorming and move to the design stage. At this point they will experiencehow rapid prototyping works, by moving many times back and forth in both thedesign and fabrication stage.

FABO Academy X, China, is a system course into digital manufacturing and rapid prototyping. Here you will learn how to envision, prototype and document your ideas through many hours of hands-on experience with digital fabrication tools. The course is based on MIT’s How To Make Almost Anything class and Fab Academy global class and can be used as a stepping stone to enter the full Fab Academy course.

学生在FABO Academy X中学到的知识等同于Fab Academy的前九节课。 今年,FABO Academy X的第十节课是设计制造机器人,学生将在上海的两周课程里制作出这个不可思议的机器。

Travis Russet和胡赵伟设计了”地书“机器人,一个能在大平面上运动的CNC 绘图机,用毛笔书写中文字符。机器人有3D打印的部件,步进和直流电机,激光切割部件,并由Arduino和CAM软件控制。
FABO Academy X is the little brother of Fab Academy. It is a shorter course teaching you the fundamentals of digital manufacturing. FABO Academy X is based on Fab Academy global class and can be your stepping stone to continue in the full Fab Academy course.
If you have completed Fablab O's FABO Academy X and choose to take the Global Fab Academy course, the tuition fee for FABO Academy X will be deducted from the Fab Academy tuition fee.
FABO Academy X China|“智造学术X” 课程是基于麻省理工学院的如何创制(几乎)万物 / How To Make (Almost )Anything课程衍生出来的一个为期3周的精简版课程。它将带您深入学习数字化制造、快速成型技术、电路设计、编程并建立网页记录整体过程。本课程也是踏入19周完整的全球Fab Academy课程的完美基石。
任何有兴趣,并想要将创想变成现实的人都可以参加我们的课程。我们不要求你有在任何数字制作领域的经验,一切都是从零基础开始!你只需要有决心,有动力,以及想创作的浓郁激情!
本课程还建议搭配两周"项目发展"模块,以实现项目设计和原型制作。
Anyone interested in getting stated in making, getting all your ideas out in real life. No previous experiencein digital fabrication is needed,we will start from the beginning, the only requirement is determination, self motivation and an interest to learn.

丁峻峰/Junfeng “Jeff” Ding
TongjiUniversity School of Design and Innovation, associate professor; DeputyDirector of Environmental Design; Founder of FAB O Shanghai and FAB OPlayground;He graduated from Southeast University Department of Architecture, and earneda dual master's degree in Architecture Design from Harvard University and Universityof Iowa. Atelier-iform Creative Design Director. He founded the Fablab O brandin 2013.Since 2013, he has been the Fablab O director in the School of Designand Innovation at Tongji University.

Fablab O|Course Director of FABO Shanghai, Researchassistant in the School of Design and Innovation at Tongji University. J.travis holds a Master degree in Architecture from UCLA and a Fab Diploma ofthe 2017 Fab Academy. Further, he is a researcher at Tongji University of Shanghai, developing STEAM education and outreach in a number schools anduniversities throughout Eastern China. DìshūBot, a self-learning robot that paints Chinese calligraphyin water (featured in the 2017 Bay Area Maker Faire) and Pure Imagination,plant fed microbial fuel cells that will power our homes and much more.

FABO X Academy | 中国“智造”学术X课程是Fablab O|中国“数制”工坊 -大学,职业大学(University, Vocational College)和高中,职业高中( High School, Vocational High School)开展的核心课程系统。

Fablab O - 中国"数制"工坊
Fablab O|中国“数制”工坊是中国第一家全球认证的Fablab实验室。实验室继承了以美国麻省理工实验室为核心的全球Fablab网络和课程-<HTMAA|如何制造万物>,和以美国哈佛大学为核心的全球合成生物网络和课程-<HTGAA|如何生长万物>。中国“数制”工坊立足打造中国创客创业生态链,凝聚本土社会可持续,经济改革的中坚力量,实现中国从“制造中国”往“智造中国”的飞跃。
在过去几年里,同济Fablab O|中国“数制”工坊实验室先后举办了包括100多期跨学科的开放夜、80多期软硬件工作坊、夏令营、教师培训、及游学活动;承办了2013、 2014、2015、2016年教育部《中美青年创客大赛》上海赛区选拔赛,2016、2017《海峡两岸青年创客大赛》,2016、2017《上海市大学生创客大赛》;2015中日韩智能可穿戴大赛;开创毕业设计创业项目;目前孵化10多个创新项目。2015年主持科技部《浦江创新论坛-创客和社会革新文化论坛》;2017年联合中国教育学会,举办《STEAM生态链教育论坛》。在创始人丁峻峰的努力下,2016年,翻译美国麻省理工大学教授Fablab创始人,Neil Gershinfeld《智造-一场新的数字革命》一书。
中国“数制”工坊实验室不断以实践为支撑,探讨全球语境下中国STEAM实验室和科创教育课程体系开发及推广。在美国麻省理工大学全球FabAcademy课程基础上,开发的STEAM创客序列课程-FABO Academy X|中国“智造学术X”是一个针对大学,职业院校,高中的贯穿式的课程系统。FABO Playground|中国“数制”乐园,专门针对K12的青少年创客教育和实验室核心,FABO HUB|“数制”中心以乐园为核心,拓展出的一系列“Project Based Learning|基于项目”的主题性实验室模块,模块包含有“可持续生态”、”生物合成”、“人工智能”、“智能可穿戴”、“机器人”、“增强现实”、“3D打印”、“未来生活”、“飞行器”等。
FABO|中国“数制”工坊已经在中国乃至全球的创客界获得显赫地位,获得了海内外媒体大量关注。得到许多纸质主流媒体比如《青年报》《解放报》等关注,也在《上海教育电视台》《东方卫视》《中央电视台新闻频道》等电台和栏目中播出。Fablab O也获得了海内外很多网络媒体的高度兴趣。
