Wintertime activities: Indoor skydiving at Shunyi's Shine Hills
At Flying Experience inside Shine Hills, kids (and adults, too) can feel the thrill of skydiving as they are carried 30 metres up by massive gusts of air. At the venue, scaredy-cats can relax knowing they're cared for in a safe, controlled environment.
Time Out Beijing Family joined Vincent Kou as he tried skydiving for the first time. First up Vincent changed into an all-in-one skydiving suit and added a helmet and goggles. Foam ear plugs were also available to protect against the roar of the air pump. Vincent’s skydiving instructor gave him a short lesson on how to position his body for maximise lift and stability and then it was time to take off.
Vincent took his instructor’s hand and the two entered the giant transparent tube where powerful winds mimicked the feeling of a real skydive. Hear more about the experience in his own words, below.
The verdict
TOBJF: Were you scared before your sky dive?
Vincent: A little scared. I didn’t know what was going to happen.
But you were brave! How did it feel to fly?
Really scary! It felt like being on a roller coaster, up and down, up and down. It was so fast, so high.
Will you tell your friends about this experience?
Yes I will tell them, but they may think it is unbelievable. I feel a little bit proud of having had this experience because they haven’t done it yet and I have. I want to show them.
You did skydiving but also flew a plane and a helicopter at Flying Experience. What was your favourite activity?
The helicopter! It was easy to play. It felt like playing computer games.
