Weekend Explorer: 5 kids cafes for those with kids under 5

Time Out Family TimeOutFamily 2019-05-16

There are plenty of reasons for families with young children to love kids cafes. For one, kids get to explore on their own within the confines of a kid-friendly environment while the adults get to take a break – be it something as simple as actually drinking your coffee while it's still warm or just being able to have a conversation with a fellow adult without, or fewer, interruptions from your tiny little human.

And for working parents? Kids cafes are a great place to potentially get some work done while the staff tend to your children. If you go on a weekday, there'd be lots of empty tables to turn on that laptop but if you have to venture out on a weekend, try heading down in the morning to avoid the crowds.

Here's five that you should try out if you haven't been. We've also listed if they'd be open this Spring Festival in case you need some downtime for yourself during the week-long holiday!

Lazyroo kids cafe (乐滋妈妈亲子餐厅

This has been, so far, the most affordable kids cafe we've found. Its weekend entry prices are even cheaper than the weekday prices at other kids cafes. Formerly located in Wangjing, Lazyroo has the basic facilities – books, slides, a ball pit, kitchen area and more – most other kids cafes have, minus the pizazz factor. What we found here that was special was a play area reserved for very young kids and a merry-go-round that only goes around twice a day. For those who prefer practical over stylish, head to Fengtai district and check out Lazyroo.

Prices (2 hours):

Mon-Fri: 60RMB

Weekends and holidays: 100RMB

Extension: 20RMB for every additional half hour

Inzone Harmony, Fourth Floor, Unit 410, Inzone Harmony, 68 Wanfeng Lu, Fengtai district (5982 9527) 丰台区万丰路68号银座和谐广场4层410号.

Bonibonbon kids cafe (本一本本亲子餐厅)

A new kids café has opened near Korea Town and it is dressed to impress. Bathed in gold and white with an occasional dab of pink, it brings to mind ladies in Korean dramas: chic and stylish. It stands out with its interactive trampoline – the first we’ve seen– a small reading area and puzzle making space, a slide that drops into the ball pit, a little make-up area and more. If you’re looking for a kids café with an amazing amount of activities, this doesn't have the most. But if you value classy surroundings, then this new kids café on the block is definitely worth checking out...

Weekday: 198RMB (free for kids under 1)

Weekend: 238RMB

Extension: 68RMB for every additional half hour

Lunaluz (Lunaluz 亲子餐厅)

This Wangjing kids café has just had an upgrade, with a wider dining area, more spaces to play in and also really cute toilet doors for parents… and kids. Because really, why shouldn’t kids have their own little doors to toilets, as well? Kids will have fun at its spiral slide area that drops into the ball pit and the huge spaces to play blocks, magnetic building pieces, train sets and kiddie kitchen area. It also stands out because of its wall climbing section where kids can safely fall off the wall onto giant cushion cubes and trampolines to bounce non-stop on. There is also an interactive wall, a small train play area for toddlers as well as a recently-added second floor activity area for those kids who are into bigger things with the soft blocks.

Weekday: 128RMB for two adults and one kid; additional 60RMB/adult

Kimo kids cafe (KIMO 星漠亲子餐厅)

The Shuangjing deluxe venue boasts an elegant interior and a myriad of activities for children, including a swanky kitchen area, a sassy make-up station for the young ladies, a bouncy area for those aiming for the skies but would like to come back down with a soft landing, a small block area and more. A nursing and diaper-changing room are also available.

Weekends: 158RMB

VitaLand kids cafe (维塔兰亲子餐厅太阳宫店)

The Taiyanggong branch is VitaLand’s second branch, with its first at Greenlake Place not too far from Chaoyang Park. This branch is bigger and allows families to watch over their children more easily compared to its first branch because of how the play area is set up around the dining area. The trampolines are smaller here though, and there aren’t that many activities for hyper kids. However, for kids who like to play pretend, play dressup or enjoy a good game of kitchen with their fellow little friends, VitaLand is a good alternative. They also take pride in its healthy menu that only uses organic ingredients, so you can take comfort in that as well. For more information, check out our playdaters' review here.
