2015-09-08 瓷讯

Aor Sutthiprapha

“A Thai born, Bangkok andSweden-based ceramic artist and designer.

Working with clay has alwaysbeen, at least for me, more than making. During my repetitive working processwith clay, my mind is usually so intensely focused that I would lose myself inmeditation. Repetition is the key to concentration, which leads to cognizance.I have learned that clay rarely remains static, and that its characteristicsvaries significantly at each stage. Clay teaches me to accept and live withthis state of flux, while trying neither to control nor to constrain it. All Ineed to deal with clay is simply to truly accept and understand it.

Working through stages of claycould be a metaphor for going through changes in life. Clay comes from theground and becomes ceramic then back to the ground again, not dissimilar tostages in our lives. Since our world is subjected to impermanence, all of ushave pains, sicknesses, injuries, tiredness, aging, and eventually deaths. Thismeans we will never be able to keep what we strive for permanent. What existswill ultimately decay.
