Obituary
It is with a saddened and heavy heart that we announce the passing of patriotic Chinese-Indonesian entrepreneur, art philanthropist, and collector Mr. Budi Tek. After 6 years of strenuous battle with late-stage pancreatic cancer, Mr. Tek passed away peacefully on March 18th, 2022, at the age of 65, surrounded by his beloved family in Hong Kong.
In 2004, Mr. Tek entered the Art industry as a successful entrepreneur. Since then, he developed his art-business acumen, and became the accomplished collector he was today. In 2007, he founded Yuz Foundation, followed by Yuz Museum Shanghai in 2014. He was an Asia-Pacific member and collector member at Tate Britain, and in 2017, been awarded as Officer of the Legion of Honor, French’s highest order of merit. As one of Asia’s top collector, Mr. Tek collects but never hesitates to share. He spends his lifetime cultivating talents endlessly. Through Yuz Museum Shanghai and Yuz Foundation’s academic programmes, collection donations, and sponsorships, Mr. Tek’s vast and historic collection, encompassing Western and Chinese Contemporary Art highlights the impact of Chinese Contemporary Art, enabling public engagement and crossed-culture communication in a global scale. Such cultural-lead conversation will further enhance discourse in an international platform following his legacy.
