About the ICRC
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence. The ICRC Regional Delegation for East Asia covers China, DPRK, South Korea, and Mongolia. The delegation’s main task is to promote awareness and implementation of international humanitarian law, the legal framework that seeks to minimize human suffering caused by war. The delegation also aims to familiarize governments, experts, national Red Cross societies and civil society with the ICRC’s humanitarian work and emergency response around the world.
Purpose of the Position
As a comprehensive and essential position, the staff performs editorial and proofreading work as part of the communication team at the ICRC Regional Delegation for East Asia based in Beijing. The main task is to provide editorial support services, translation services for public communication content. S/he also regularly monitors Chinese and English language media, and provides regular reports on the monitoring with analysis on an agreed selection of issues.
Your Main Tasks
In charge of editing and proofreading texts, reports, articles, etc.… and contributes to media monitoring
Contributes to writing stories, articles, etc.…for various media outlets and social media platforms
Contributes to the monitoring and analysis of media and academic sources on humanitarian, politics and social issues
Contributes to written reporting, including to PFR and ad-hoc reports
Contributes to the implementation and running of communication, information, dissemination, production projects or programs, mainly independently
Your Profile
University degree in Chinese and English or similar from a recognized academic institution
Very good analytical and writing/reporting skills
At least three years’ experience writing for national and international audience, whether in the private sector or for international organizations
At least three years’ experience in editing
Very Good verbal and written communication skills
Fluent in spoken and written Chinese and English
Deep understanding of Chinese traditional media, social media, academic sources, think tanks and NGOs
