I am completing my duty as Chinese Ambassador to the United States. I came to assume office in 2021 at a time of severe challenges for China-US relations.
During my tenure here, I have been working to implement the common understandings of our two Presidents, serve as a bridge and bond of communication between the two countries, and explore the right way to get along for China and the US in the new era.
I want to pay sincere thanks to the people of the United States for the strong support and assistance given to me and the Chinese Embassy during this period.
In the past 500+ days, I have visited 22 states. I went to government agencies, Congress, think tanks, enterprises, factories, ports, farms, schools and sport fields, and made many friends across the US.
I have been deeply impressed by so many hard-working, friendly and talented American people that I met.
What’s past is prologue. Going forward, I will continue to care about and support the growth of China-US relations, encourage dialogue, mutual understanding and affinity between the two peoples, work for mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation between our two countries, and make my due efforts for the wellbeing of the two peoples and for world peace, stability and development.

China’s ambassador to the United States Qin Gang has been named as the country’s new foreign minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on its website today.
Qin, 56, will succeed Wang Yi at the post. Qin, whose previous posts include ministry spokesman in Beijing, regularly posts on Twitter.
“Tried my first throw at an NBA game @WashWizards,” Qin said in a Tweet dated Dec. 27. “Also renewed our special relationship as Washington Wizards was the first NBA team to visit China in 1979 when our two countries established diplomatic relationship.”
In an interview with Forbes in May held in Washington, D.C., Qin was upbeat about overall ties between the two nations. “We are natural partners, because our economies are highly complementary,” he told me. “We are very optimistic about the potential and opportunities between our two countries.”
Speaking virtually at the U.S.-China Business Forum held at Forbes in August, Qin, a fluent English speaker, was also optimistic about China’s potential to recover from Covid-related issues in the longer term.
“The basic features of the Chinese economy — full potential, great resilience, strong vitality, vast room for maneuver and plenty of policy tools — remain unchanged,” Qin said. “The various advantages of China’s development remain unchanged. We have full confidence in the future of the Chinese economy.”
Wang, the outgoing foreign minister, was named to the Politburo in October.
