The value of liberal arts education should be self-evident. It is the way you think, the way you express yourselves, and the way you make decisions, whether as an individual or a collective.

More recently, however, the burden of self-justification seems to have fallen upon those who are less enthusiastic to wholeheartedly embrace the technocratic world. Oftentimes we find ourselves having to defend against an array of accusations against liberal arts education or the humanities in particular: it doesn’t help with vocational preparation; it's elitist; it doesn't generate any tangible values... We unapologetically believe this is all but a common misconception, a false dichotomy between Arts and Sciences, a toxic life philosophy…

Let us look back at the world 20 years ago and try to imagine into the future. In the year 2000, it was still difficult to predict the technological advancements and imagine the kind of jobs that are popular today. Likewise, in 2040 we can fairly expect that new industries, new demands and new visions that we can't even begin to fathom now would reorder and revolutionize the world we’re familiar with.

But something has remained constant since the dawn of human enlightenment: to reason and write with elegance, to persuade and mobilize with civility, and to listen with care and respect. These are skill sets that will stay with us, and prepare us for the journey down the road.

The Covid-19 pandemic has been and still is a devastating burden. Many summer programs in in the US have been shut down. In this unique time period, with our shared love for liberal arts education and a passion for teaching, our Stoooges team hereby present these online courses to you.

As an end note, we'd like to share a quote from Brian Rosenberg, former president of Macalester College, "Any list of the abilities that should be inculcated by a first-rate liberal arts education would surely include near the very top both the capacity to see the world clearly, honestly, and with an appreciation for its beauty and the dire and the capacity to empathize with the world view of those who are unlike ourselves."
