HOW International Curatorial Residency Program

Co-sponsored by HOW Art Museum and Onehome Art Hotel (Shanghai), HOW International Curatorial Residency Program launches an open call for curators, scholars and arts writers worldwide who are interested to get deeper insight of Chinese contemporary art scene. The residency program aims to motivate residency exchange opportunities around the world and to forge durable institutional relationships in the long run. The arrangements include meetings with art professionals, studio visits, gallery and institution visits, and attendance at selected performances and other events. Furthermore, the curators-in-residence are invited to work in close collaboration and coordination with HOW Art Museum team, as well as to produce an essay, or to organize a public event such as a lecture.

Yi Bongmi

Yi Bongmi is a curator, and currently serves as the co-founder of an art space titled Youngju Mansion in Busan. She majored fine arts at Pusan National University and completed aesthetics course in Arts and Culture, Philosophy & Theory in graduate school.

Selected major projects organized by Yi Bongmi include: Matting Project - Planning Busan, Gunsan, Ansan, Daejeon Youth Artist Exchange Project (2017), Artist Also Publishes - Planning for Publishing Support Project for Young Artists (2017), and ‘Which Dabang did you go to?’ Book Publishing Project (2017).

Youngju Mansion

The Youngju Mansion was established in April 2018. The art space is located in an old apartment built in the 1960s in Youngju-dong, Jung Gu, Busan, where the past and present coexist. Developed by Busan City, the area originally served as a refuge during the Korean War. After the armistice, the citizens began to build houses in the area, which has gradually turned into a residential area.

Aimed at supporting the experimental art practice and contemplating the boundaries (inside/outside), Youngju Mansion has hosted several exhibitions including Reframe (April 15 - May 13, 2018), An Ordinary Imagination (May 19 - June 10, 2018), J of Mandi (June 20 - July 12, 2018), and Mountain Mountain (July 15 - July 31, 2018).
