上海亚洲文会图书馆Royal Asiatic Society China Reading Room正式签约HWCD尚海湾艺术中心

今夏8月，上海亚洲文会图书馆Royal Asiatic Society China Reading Room（以下简称RAS）正式签约入驻HWCD全新打造的尚海湾艺术中心。

This August, Royal Asiatic Society China (RAS China) has officially signed with HWCD to join the brand new Shanghai Bay Art Centre located in the West-Bund to open the new RAS China Reading Room.

8月27日晚，HWCD董事、全球合伙人林宏俊先生和国际项目总监John Villar与RAS业务总监Sven Serrano，著名建筑设计师、RAS副总监Parul Rewal以及主任John Van Fleet在尚海湾正式完成签约仪式并共进晚餐。

On the evening of August 27th, the Director and Global Partner of HWCD Mr. Lin Hongjun, International Project Director of HWCD John Villar, and Director Library Services of RAS Sven Serrano, Vice President Parul Rewal, and Secretary John Van Fleet has formally completed the signing ceremony in the new RAS China Reading Room in Shanghai Bay.

Royal Asiatic Society亚洲文会由创立于1823年，初衷是鼓励协会研究亚洲相关的科学、文学和艺术，并促进交流。RAS总部设在伦敦，在印度、斯里兰卡、中国(香港、上海和北京)、日本、韩国和马来西亚均设有分支机构。

Royal Asiatic Society was established in 1823 with the intention of encouraging society to study and stimulating the development and communication on Asian-related science, literature, and art. The RAS headquarter is based in London and set branch offices in India, Sri Lanka, China (Hongkong, Shanghai, and Beijing), Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia.

亚洲文会北中国支会于1857年创立，选址于上海圆明园路，即今虎丘路。1932年建成五层的新会所大厦，属于艺术装饰主义风格，立面竖向构图明显。顶部、阳台和铁门采用了中国传统图案进行装饰，最特别的是设计了八卦窗。

The North China Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society was founded in Shanghai in 1857, and located on Yuanmingyuan Rd, now named Huqiu Rd. The new building of the society was established in 1932, styled in Art Deco elements, with vertical composition of the facade. The decoration of the roof, balcony, and the iron door has traditional Chinese patterns, and the most outstanding design is the Eight-diagramswindow. 

经过陈列布置，到1933年2月23日正式开放。其中二层为伍连德讲堂（演讲厅），三楼开设图书馆，四楼、五楼为博物院陈列室（后命名为上海博物馆）。1955年，RAS的图书收藏被移至上海图书馆，并在2007年恢复了RAS的期刊出版物。一直以来，RAS都致力于上海的历史与文化研究，并做出诸多贡献。 

The building was officially opened on February 23rd, 1933, after the arrangement. The second floor was the Wu Liande lecture hall,  third floors were the library, and the fourth and fifth floors were the RAS Museum (renamed the Shanghai Museum). Later, the library holdings from RAS China were transferred to the Shanghai Municipal Library in 1955. Following the return of the RAS in Shanghai in 2007, they resumed their journal publication and a new library celebrating its heritage was established. RAS China has devoted itself to the study of Shanghai’s history and culture and has made many contributions.

今后，在尚海湾的RAS Library将会呈现诸多关于上海历史和生活的珍贵书籍和绝版文献，呈现更多与设计、文化、历史相关的著作。并定期举办学术讨论，小型艺术展览等活动，分享更多生活思趣，为挖掘和发现关于上海的故事提供一个场所，使每一位光临的读者都能享受到在艺术环境中阅读的趣味。

In the future, RAS China Reading Room in Shanghai Bay will present many precious books and out-of-print documents on the design, culture,and history. Also with regularly organized academic discussions, art exhibitions, and activities in the future to share more interests and provide a platform for discovering stories about Shanghai.
