California Cities Salute Senator Bob HuffSenate Republican Leader Recognized for Key Votes to Help Cities

SACRAMENTO: Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) has earned one of the highest scores awarded by the League of California Cities for supporting or authoring legislation “to help develop new community and economic development tools and funding options for city services.” Senator Huff was recognized for his efforts to help cities in California with economic development issues and maintain local control.

The league praised Senator Huff’s work on behalf of California cities by noting that Senator Huff worked to “address local concerns with amendments on more contentious legislation.”Senator Huff, who served as Mayor as Diamond Bar before he was elected to the State Legislature, is grateful for the recognition and says his experience as both Mayor and Council Member gives him a unique perspective as to what is important for cities.

“I agree with the League of California Cities that city officials are, by nature, problem solvers that are more interested in improving their respective communities than placing blame on others,” said Senator Huff. “We seek to create jobs and opportunities to improve our communities, which is what I've kept my focus on here at the state level.”

Senator Huff was cited for his job creation efforts for co-authoring and supporting legislation supported by the League of California Cities such as AB 1839, which expanded and enhanced California’s Film and TV Tax Credit. He was also credited for his support of AB 1399, the California New Markets Tax Credit program designed to spur investment and create jobs in low-income communities throughout California.

The Senate Republican Leader, who was named as the League’s Legislator of the Year in 2011, was also credited for his efforts to block legislation deemed harmful to cities. He opposed a measure later vetoed by the governor, AB 2052, which sought to increase city employer costs.

Senator Huff’s commitment and service on behalf of local cities in California cannot be understated,” said League of California Cities Executive Director Chris McKenzie. “He remains sensitive to the diversity of local communities and understands the importance of retaining flexibility and authority to address local issues.”

Senator Huff serves as the Senate Republican Leader and represents the 29th Senate District covering portions of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino Counties. Follow Senator Huff on Twitter at @bobhuff99.
