(Excerpt from A Eulogy on Books by Ke Ling)
A book is my good friend. It gives me a golden key, which leads me to a door that broadens my horizons, changes my foolish minds, and opens up my closed spirits. It never stints itself of assistance for me.
A book is my lover in adolescence, my confidant in midlife, and my companion at the advanced age. I neither worry about loneliness nor fear fickleness of human nature as well as inconstancy of human relationships with a book in hand. It makes me a millionaire in the intellectual life. It has become indispensable to me. Either when I have finished work and be exhausted, or when I am annoyed or distressed, I want to be closed to a book, because this appeases me perfectly.
It is of great pleasure for authors to give the books they write to their relatives and friends as well as to dedicate the books to readers. It is the best reward for authors that their books resonate and gain compliments.
A book is sunshine, air, rain and dew. I could not imagine what the world would be without books.
From Eulogizing Books by Ling Ke
Books are my good friends. They give me a golden key and guide me to broaden my horizons, remove ignorance, and open my closed heart. They never begrudge every support given to me.
Books are my sweethearts in the youth, my bosom friends in the middle age, and my life partners in the golden years. With them in my life, I am no longer worried about a life of loneliness or the fickleness of the world. Indeed, they have made me a billionaire in the spiritual sense, and I cannot live without them every day. When I am exhausted after a busy day, or when I feel angry or frustrated, I would get myself close to books which are a fascinating source of comfort.
A writer acquires the biggest pleasure when he gives his books to his kith and kin as gifts or writes for his readers. And if his books strike a chord with the wider society and win widespread praise and recognition, he receives the most important reward.
Books are the sun, air, rain and dew. I cannot imagine a world without books.
—An excerpt from Ode to Books by Ke Ling
Book is my good friend who offers me a golden key to helping broaden my limited horizon, fill in my empty mind and open my closed soul. It is never mean with help for me.
Book is the lover in my adolescence, the bosom friend in my middle age and the spouse in my declining years. With its company, I have never feared loneliness, indifference and fickleness by humans. It enables me to be a man of spiritual richness. Accordingly, I come to be a man who “fails to leave books alone even for one day.” Whenever I have my work done and feel tired, or I get irritated or bored, books will be the only ones I intend to stay with, as they have been a wonderful comfort to me.
For a writer, it is his greatest pleasure to share his books with his relatives, friends and readers; and it is the best prize for him to see that his books get resonance and approval.
Books are the sun, the air, the rain and dew. I can’t imagine what the world without books will be reduced to be.
Excerpt from Eulogizing Books by Ke Ling
Books are my good friends. They offer me a golden key and lead me to broaden my narrow horizon, enrich my benighted brain and open my closed heart. They will never be mean to help me.
Books are my lover in adolescence, my confidant in middle age and my companion in old age. With them, never would I worry about loneliness, nor would I be afraid of the fickleness of human nature and the world. They have made me a rich man in the spiritual world. “How could I live a day without you?” When I am exhausted from work, or when I feel angry and upset, I just want to get myself close to them, because they are wonderful consolation to me.
It is the greatest pleasure for a writer to send his books to his friends and relatives or to offer them to readers. It will be his best reward if his books can strike a chord and be praised.
Books are the sun, the air, the rain and dew. I can't imagine a world without books.
From The Lyric of Books by Ke Ling
Books are my good friends. They have rendered me a golden key to broadening my horizon and elevating me from my clumsiness and ignorance. They never skimp on helping me.
Books are my sweethearts in adolescence, middle-aged confidants in middle age, and companions in my declining years. Accompanied by books, I am no longer lonely, nor afraid of the fickleness of the human nature and the world. They have enriched my inner world. I simply cannot live one day without them. When I feel exhausted after getting work done, or when I feel furious or frustrated, I will try to get close to books for they are the best in providing with intellectual comfort.
It is the greatest pleasure for a writer to present his own works to his relatives and friends, and to offer them to his readers, whose resonance and acclaim is the best reward for him.
Books are sunlight and air, rain and dew. I cannot imagine a a world with no books.
