WHAT'S NEW & ADJUSTED?

Well, let's have a review at first.

In China, foreign workers are classified into three categories: A for "top talent", B for "professional talent" and C for "unskilled workers", mostly foreign graduates.

Foreign workers are required to first obtain a work permit notification letter, then use the letter to get a "Z" visa, an employment visa issued to foreigners, and then finally apply for a work permit.

Starting from this week, local companies with B- and C-class foreign workers can apply for the following things online instead of submitting paper documents to authorities:

  • Work permit notification letter

  • Extension of work perits

Previously, online applications were only available for A-class foreign workers.

Specifc rules may be different in different regions. Shenzhen, for example, has extended the validity of the notification letter from 90 days to 5 months

For those who apply for work permits for the first time, the application procedures remain unchanged. applicators or agents need to wear a surgical mask when handling in the office.

WHEN EFFECTIVE?

Related notice went into effect as it was issued. The terination time will be further announced after the epidemic.

Since China has extended the Spring Festival holiday to Feb 2, 2020, authorities have returned to work from Feb 3, which means that the services are available now

WHAT TO DO AFTER APPROVAL?

Once you obatian the work permit notification letter, you are able to apply for a Z visa.

Due to the current situation, authorities suggest that foreigners who have obtained the notification letter but haven't yet entered China apply for a Z visa at Chinese embassies and consulates abroad

After you get the visa which usually valids within 3 months, you can enter China during this period. So please arrange your trip according to the actual situation.

WHAT IF MY VISA EXPIRES?

There might be some rules different in different cities. But it is widely reported that delay caused by the epidemic situation will be handled with special methods

In Shenzhen, if your visa expired during the period from Jan 31 to Feb 2, 2020, you can still handle the business on Feb 3. But it need to be processed as urgent situation. Please consult with local authorites if you meet this condition.

In Shanghai, if you had already applied for a Z visa before the coronavirus prevention and control period, and it expired caused by the delay of entry due to the epidemic, your employer can submit a fact sheet for approval if you enter China with other visas.
