与其在网上看些信源模糊、耸人听闻、阴阳怪气的失实消息，不如现在就跟着咱们的记者小姐姐去新疆看看——

Extremism would cost their chances for a better life once they go astray further, said trainees at a vocational education and training program in Hotan, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, adding that the skills they acquired will help in their efforts to pull themselves from poverty.
误入宗教极端主义的歧途，会毁了大家过上更好生活的可能——新疆职业技术培训中心的学员如是说。他们同时强调，在培训中心学到的技能，可以帮助他们脱贫。
Global Times reporters visited a vocational education and training center in Hotan's Yutian county over the weekend. A sign outside the center reads, “Turn people who need jobs into people who have necessary skills for the job.”
周末，《环球时报》记者走访了和田地区于田县的一个职业教育培训中心。中心外的标语写道：“把需要工作的人变成工作需要的人。”

Hotan is one of the four prefectures in southern Xinjiang that has in the past struggled to combat terrorist activity and the spread of religious extremism.
和田，是过去曾受到恐怖主义的威胁，和宗教极端主义严重影响的南疆地区之一。
At the center, factories producing footwear, local snacks and more are operated. Trainees who have performed well in classes such as the country’s common language, Chinese laws and vocational skills, as well as de-extremization education, can choose to work on the production lines, Yutian deputy chief Adil Abdueni, told the Global Times.
培训中心已经建好了印刷厂、鞋厂和新疆特色小吃厂。学习国家通用语言，法律知识、职业技能，连同去极端化教育中表现良好的学员，可以自愿选择在工厂工作，于田县副县长阿迪力•阿卜杜艾尼告诉《环球时报》。

Matkasim Tudi, who is a trainee at the center, is now in charge of running a printing plant.
买提卡斯木•土地，现在在培训中心负责经营一个印刷工厂。
He and some trainees raised 4.5 million yuan to purchase printing machines and started their businesses in July after moving into the plant, which was built by local government.
他和一些培训生筹集了450万元购买印刷机，并在7月份搬进了当地政府建造的工厂后，开始了他们的生意。
He said that the plant has received 3.7 million in orders since July, which mainly include printing notes for students. It will take three to four months to finish the orders.
他介绍说，自7月份以来，这家工厂已经收到了制作学生笔记本的订单，价值370万元。完成订单需要三到四个月的时间。

Workers at the plant earn about 1,500 yuan a month, plus bonuses. Most of them give the money to their families since they save on room and board.
这家工厂的工人每月工资约1500元，还有额外的奖金。大多数人把钱寄给他们的家人，因为在这里他们已享受免费的食宿。

Trainees can get up to 600 yuan in subsidies and at least two days off a week during training, a manager surnamed Yuan from a footwear plant at the center, told the Global Times.
学员在接受职业培训时，也可获得600元左右的补助。该中心一家制鞋厂的袁经理告诉《环球时报》，学员们每周至少有两天的假期。

A changed and better life
改变而且向好的生活
Officials reached by Global Times in Hotan said that most of trainees have at one time been coerced, lured or pushed into terrorist or extremist activities. Xinjiang prioritizes rehabilitation in accordance with the Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, Anti-Terrorism Law and other relevant laws and regulations.
《环球时报》联系到的官员表示，该项目的受训者大多是被教唆、胁迫或诱骗参与恐怖主义或极端主义活动的人，新疆根据刑法、刑事诉讼法、反恐怖主义法等相关法律法规，实行量刑与从宽相结合，突出对学员的改造与救赎。
Trainees can receive free vocational training to improve their command over the country's common language, Chinese law and vocational skills, among others.
学员可以接受免费的职业培训，以提高他们掌握国语、获得法律知识和职业技能等方面的能力。
“I was born in a religious family and was told that I was born to be a Muslims. I had little knowledge of laws before participating in the program. Distorted doctrines spread by religious extremists are against our laws,” Eli Matusun told the Global Times.
“我出生在一个宗教氛围浓厚的家庭，很多人告诉我，我生来就是穆斯林。在参加这个项目之前，我对法律的了解是有限的。被宗教极端主义曲解的教义违反了我们的法律。” 学员艾力•买吐送告诉《环球时报》。
“The program was good timing for me, since we learned that extremism is the root of terrorism and violence and if we go further astray, we would become terrorists,” he said.
他说：“我参加这个项目很及时，因为我们已经知道，极端主义是恐怖和暴力的根源，如果我们进一步误入歧途，我们就会变成恐怖分子。”
Eli Matusu said that he hopes to learn more through the program and plans to start his own business in the future.
艾力•买吐送说，他希望在这个项目中学到更多东西，并计划将来自己创业。
Matkurban, who is working at an electronic production plant, had attended a high school in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province. But before taking the national college entrance examination, his father – who had been influenced by extremism – asked him to drop out of school.
学员买提库尔班在电子产品工厂工作。他曾经在黑龙江省读高中，但在高考之前，他被自己受极端思想严重影响的父亲要求辍学。
“He asked me to come back and learn religious doctrines and said that he would not go to heaven if I didn’t.” Matkurban had to give up his dream of going on to medical school.
“他要求我回来学经，并且说如果我没有做这些他就不会去天堂。”买提库尔班痛苦地放弃了他进入医学院的梦想。
Without direction in life, he joined the program. “I am interested in electronic production and want to learn more here,” he said. “It’s like being back in school.”
他在倍感人生迷茫时参加了培训。“我对这些电子产品很感兴趣，也愿意在这里学到更多的知识。”他说。
The factories have also arranged departments for married trainees.
培训中心还为已婚的学员提供宿舍。
Rukeyam Abdukadir, who now works at a plant with her husband, said she can now dress however she likes and has improved standing in her family. Coming from a religious family, she had been forbidden from wearing anything except robes. She was also forbidden from working and even watching TV.
肉克亚木•阿布都卡迪尔现在和她的丈夫在工厂工作。她说，现在可以按照自己的喜好打扮自己，她的家庭地位也得到了提升。当家人受到宗教极端主义的影响时，她曾被禁止穿除了长袍之外的其他衣服，不能工作，甚至不能看电视。
“I am the person who manages the money now,” she said.

Global Times reporters visited a school near a tea factory.
《环球时报》记者走访了茶厂附近的一所学校。
Some parents drop off their children for daycare before they go to work, and pick them up after work, said teachers at the school told the Global Times.
学校的老师们说，父母们会在孩子上班前送他们去托儿所，下班后接他们。

Luo Hongmei, chief of the Party committee of the Yutian Educational Bureau, told the Global Times that previously, some children's parents, who have been influenced by religious extremism, did not want to send their children to schools and gave little care to them.
和田教育局党委书记骆红梅说，在之前，一些孩子的家长误入宗教极端主义的歧途，不愿意送孩子去上学，也不怎么照顾他们。
“The children have become more open - we can always see their smiling faces. Their personal hygiene has been improved… they have also performed well in study… all of these would lay solid foundation for their future development,” Luo said.
“现在，孩子们都更开朗了——总是能看到他们脸上的笑容。他们的个人卫生状况改善了，学习也很棒……这些都为他们未来的发展奠定了坚实的基础。”
