Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. 

Several agencies and governments organise special events to spread awareness among masses about climate change and global warming. The day inspires us to act towards the protection of the environment and focus on the need for conservation. 

Even though World Earth Day is popular, many people don't know about it.

The History Of 

 World Earth Day

According to earthday.org ，Senator Gaylord Nelson, a junior senator from Wisconsin, had long been concerned about the deteriorating environment in the United States. 
He recruited Denis Hayes, a young activist, to organize the campus teach-ins and they choose April 22, a weekday falling between Spring Break and Final Exams, to maximize the greatest student participation in 1969 .
Soon，they changed the name to Earth Day, which immediately sparked national media attention, and caught on across the country. 

By the end of 1970, the first Earth Day led to the creation of The  United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of   other first of their kind environmental laws.
As 1990 approached, a group of environmental leaders approached Denis Hayes to once again organize another major campaign for the planet. 
30 years on, Earth Day 2000 sent world leaders a loud and clear message: Citizens around the world wanted quick and decisive action on global warming and clean energy.

What Can I Do 

On World Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day, April 22nd, millions of people around the world will do things a little differently to preserve resources and lighten their footprint on the earth. 

Different media give different suggestions.

The Sinapore Tatler said people should learn what you can and cannot recycle or join a freecycling group.
And The Observer said：“ Urging people to challenge themselves to make one small change at a time, every semester, season, year or whatever time frame works well for their mind and body ”

Besides learning knowledge for a long time, there are also some things you can do with your hands on that day.
According to teenvogue.com，you have 10 ways to contribute  with your hands. Such as plant something，use a refillable water bottle，buy reusable bags and so on.

Media Focus On 

World Earth Day

World Earth Day has attracted media attention. 

The Financial Express editorial said ：“the majestic blue planet is home to millions of rich diverse species and to 7.8 billion people. To save the planet from extinction, not only there is a need to focus on the recovery of the environment but also liberating humans across the boundaries from growing vicious circle of everyday problems of resource stress. Only then human-environment interdependency can survive within the broader system.”

And China Daily also focus on World Earth Day.
On April 22，China Daily post an editorial named  Restore the Earth is vital message of 2021 Earth Day.
China Daily said ：“We must restore our earth not just because we care about the natural world, but because we live in it. Every one of us needs a healthy Earth to support our jobs, livelihoods, health and survival, and happiness.”
Most media call for the protection of the earth.
“One Earth, One Chance.Save a planet. Start with the one your standing on.” said by DNA web team.
