CMB Tower, Nantong l HPP ON SITE

New landmark in Nantong Innovation Zone !

At the end of May 2021, the Nantong CMB Tower designed by HPP formally started construction. This building is not only energy efficient, fashion-leading, but also shows the regional cultural characteristics of Nantong.

As an architectural design company of the project, HPP attended the ground breaking ceremony. As a national strategic partner and Top 10 excellent suppliers of China Merchants Bank’s (CMB) construction project, HPP has cooperated on a number of significant projects, including CMB Beijing Headquarters, Chengdu CMB Backstage Service Centre Phase ll, CMB Nanchang Branch office and Xining Branch office. The Nantong CMB Tower will be a new milestone in the history of the CMB Nantong Branch.

BACKGROUND

The project is located in the Central Innovation Zone of Chongchuan District, Nantong City, adjacent to the east side of Zilang Lake. The project is positioned as a high-end financial business office, with a total investment of RMB 5.35 million.  The plot size is 11,423㎡, the total floor area 49,831㎡ and total overground area is 28,463㎡. CMB Nantong Tower consists of an 18-storey tower, 3-storey podium and 2-storey underground space. CMB bank offices, lease offices, bank business halls and underground parkingare composed in the building to provide convenient financial services for the public.

LAYOUT

The tower is forming a south-facing layout and taking into consideration the 60-meter wide view corridor on the north. The naturally formed south plaza and the 20-meter-wide landscaped green belt together form the main entrance of the CMB tower. The north side of the tower uses the space as the entrance to the lease office, which effectively separates the flow of people for self-use and lease office. The podium includes the public banking functions and is directly integrated with the north-south public city axis. Easy and generous pedestrian access from the axis to the site combined with quiet spaces for sitting, leisure and greenery form an actively used banking environment.

CONCEPT

The project is adjacent to Zilang Lake, overlooking the Wolf Mountain and with excellent natural landscape resources. It is close to Nantong Grand Theatre and Nantong Art Museum in the west. In such an environment, the starting point for the design is to make the building blend into the surrounding environment. HPP chose to "naturalize" the rectangular building blocks. By reshaping the traditional square with gentle rounded and curved lines, designers make the building more elegant and increase the view quality from inside towards the beautiful surroundings. The curved facade complements the water waves of Zilang Lake.

The people of Nantong have always loved to watch the Lantern Festival. 270 years ago it was written in Poetry: "Beautiful Tongzhou has brilliant lanterns". The shape of the building is inspired by the lantern. It means good fortune and brightness. The slight expansion of each floor creates a dynamic effect of the whole building growing upwards makes it modern and contemporary.

The design language of the facade is consistent with the form by using the horizontal lines strengthened by thesilver-white aluminum panels. Natural ventilation integrated in the frames avoid opening windows, resulting in a clean and elegant facade. The Nantong CMB Tower claims a strong presence within the financial business center and brings a harmonious interaction between nature and office functions.

EPILOGUE 

HPP has rich experience in the design of financial office, including the Berlin Deutsche Bank headquarters, Münster LVM 5 headquarters and Mönchengladbach Santander Bank. Projects under construction include the Shanghai SPD Bank headquarters, Shanghai NDB headquarters Interior Design, Central Bank of Turkey and the Düsseldorf PWC Eclipse Office Campus.
