On St. Valentine’s Day, children, parents, and staff of Bright Academy took collective action in order to express their respect and love to the medical staff who are fighting the virus on the front line. In just two days, Bright Academy community members from different parts of the world sent their videos and photos to show their support. A short video entitled "Special Love to the Special You", collaboratively produced by members of the Bright Academy community was posted online on February 14th. Within 24hours, the video was published by 2 of the most influential media platforms in China.
As an IB candidate school, Bright Academy instills in its students those same core ethics that the International Baccalaureate Organization promotes: academic and personal values that are truly universal. The ability to inquire, reflect, and to take responsibility and action based upon a principled understanding is a fundamental emphasis of the school’s teaching practices. The children, having a knowledge of the crisis, took the opportunity to learn how to appreciate and honor the people who are fighting for our safety and health. The students seized the day, enthusiastically embracing the project in tandem with the entire Bright Academy community. In spite of the school’s temporary closure, the work created by this academic community has shown the strength and underlying bond that exists between staff members, students, and parents, in overcoming obstacles.
The sole wish of the school was that the video could bring a smile and some comfort to the doctors and nurses, illustrating that support comes from all walks of life and is worldwide. They connected with the Wuhan 1st hospital resulting in heartfelt feedback from the medical staff:
“It makes us feel very appreciated, thank you to the children, and hardworking teachers, we wish everyone happiness and health”
The school’s principal issued the following statement, reflecting the appreciation of all the work that had gone into the project:
“Bright Academy sincerely thanks all of the parents for their support. We hugely appreciate the high standard of creativity shown by the children, parents, and teachers that went into making this special video production. We cannot wait for the day that the medical teams can take off their protective clothing and masks, and we get to see the faces of our heroes. These champions are never to be forgotten. We pray for your safe passage through these extraordinary times.”
