Looking for a fun weekend activity that the whole family can enjoy? Trudging around the city in the heat of the summer isn’t much fun, which is why we think that the B-Electric Bike Tours are a great option right now.

Now before you read any further, I should probably disclose a small conflict of interest: while I have not affiliation at all with B-Electric, in another lifetime and on another continent I was a bicycle tour guide myself, and I firmly believe that there is no better way to enjoy a city than by exploring it on two wheels.

As the name suggests, B-Electric tours all take place on electric bicycles, which makes it really easy to cover large distances without breaking (more of) a sweat. The company is the brainchild of Dominic De Couto and Ilya Cheremnikh (who is also the founder of popular Chinese language school Culture Yard), two educators who transfer their passion for learning into their fun and interactive tours.

The company currently runs two regular tours: Old Beijing, which visits locations like Ghost Street, the Drum and Bell Towers, the Forbidden City, Fox Tower, and the Ming Dynasty City Wall; and Modern Beijing, which stops by locations like Galaxy Soho, CBD, CCTV Offices, China Zun, Phoenix Offices, and The Workers Stadium. They have also just officially re-opened their very popular Hutong tour, which can run as normal now that most of the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
The minimum recommended age for riding on the back of E-Bikes is 5, but children under 12 actually ride for free on B-Electric tours, making it a really great option for slightly older kids.

Don’t tell the other adults, but according to De Couto, family tours are actually some of their favorite. “Being able to teach younger kids about Beijing and enjoy some fun and games along the way is priceless. As we are both still working in education, we enjoy being able to educate and learn ourselves also. It’s always amazing to see the younger kids get increasingly confident over the trip, giving more input and becoming more excited about the things we are seeing, and mostly just the ride!”

Keen to check it out? B-Electric are currently offering 25% off their normal price of RMB 400 per person. For more info, or to make a booking, add them on WeChat via ID: BElectric.
