Our expat community thrives on connection, and here at Jingkids, we’re all about our readers, what they need and want in order to maximise their time here in Beijing. Every Monday, we’re going to feature a prominent member of our expat community and get to know them a little bit better.
Starting his career at Nike EHQ, Dominic De Couto had a sudden change in direction after a short phone call from his best mate at Uni. After a year of being in Beijing he ended up opening a cultural experience company with a friend he met here, creating the only E-Bike tours Beijing currently has, as well as some several other unique experiences. It’s simple what they do - they use their interest in the fascinating culture and history of this city and combine it with a passion to have fun and create amazing experiences!
What's On Your Mind?
Usually a mix between thinking of some more cool and fun experiences to create and then just simply enjoying the moment. There's always a part of my mind that knows there's a hurdle around the corner, but that also keeps me on my toes and ready to deal with it. Also family and friends back home and spread across the world, but the great thing about today is that when they're on your mind you can get out your phone and drop them a message!

What Motivates You To Get Moving?
The motivation to get up and do what I do is that I enjoy it and I want to keep having fun forever! The motivation to do more and create more experiences comes from our guests that are top class legends. I say it a lot, but they really are. Their positivity and kindness is the reason we are still alive and have actually grown through Covid.
What Keeps You Sane In The Madness?
Mostly having an amazing partner 李东, the one dealing with my craziness on a daily basis. Fortunately I can cook to keep her happy and we have some pretty sweet experiences together. The most important thing I've learnt from my friend, business partner and mentor (Ilya) is to 慢慢来 which means take it easy, don't rush things. I also do play sports, as well as other exercise like hiking, climbing and riding, mediation, and eating lots of tasty food helps a lot.
What's Your Favorite Thing About Beijing?
The opportunity to create something special, whether it be in business or your own life experiences. I’m still relatively new to Beijing but I can see that Beijing is begging for new fun and interesting things. The fact that I’m able to open a company and create experiences which are based off what I enjoy doing is just too good and the fact that we’re having positive impact on people’s lives truly makes me feel very proud and happy. Often people will ask me “So what do you do as your proper job?” and I reply with a grin or chuckle saying, “This is my real full-time gig”.
