November's Photo Contest: Most Memorable Meal saw us taking a jolly trip down memory lane to recall the best moments we had around food and family within this past year. After all, food unites us and brings us together because everyone eats. If you don't believe us, check out these great quotes about food and company, by our favorite famous chefs and celebrities!
Before we announce the winner of our Most Memorable Meal Photo Contest, let's recap the entries that we received.
Oscar Tsui
11th grader
"This is a photo of a cake from Duff Lange on our dining room table. We were celebrating a family member's birthday and an early Christmas (suggested by the cake's color scheme). The cake was one of the best I ever had! Though whether a cake can be considered a meal is certainly a discussion, I can guarantee that eating a slice of it felt like finishing an entire meal! Its color, rich taste and sheer size says it all."
Angie Chan
aka (The Chiffon Lady) & family
"After 2.5 years, we finally had a chance to have dinner with my parents and in-laws during the summer holiday! It was such a precious moment for us!"
Haniyah Rao
"On November 19, the PECB has its annual Cultural Day in which many different countries from all over the world set up a stall to represent their food and culture. This picture is of the Uzbekistani stall - the people were extremely polite and the food was delicious! It was all homemade and my favorite dish was the fried potato dumplings (barak) where were crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside..."
Erin Crocetti
Expat mother of 3
"For our family, some of our best memories around food have been on the road and a bit more transitional than the normal sit-down dinner. Here, my littlest (Sofia, 2.5 years old) is learning how to use chopsticks for the first time - or not."
Christine Wong
"On the seventh day of the Chinese New Year, which is known as 人日 (Rén rì) meaning it's everyone's birthday! We celebrate with a Prosperity Toss (Lou Sang) - a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigor! This is our homemade version of the Prosperity Toss."
Pilaxy Rasmussen
Mother of 3 and jingkids Parent Board member
“We love homemade food, and spending time in the kitchen altogether as a family is how we get quality time. Here we are baking holiday cookies for the whole neighborhood, which is like one big family!”
And the winner is... Oscar Tsui!
Oscar will receive a gift certificate entitling two people to an All-You-Can-Eat Lunch Buffet (worth over RMB 700) at Scene a Café in China World Hotel, as well as a studio photography class with one of Beijing’s favorite professional photographers, Dave Hanssen from Dave’s Studio!
We here at jingkids would like to thank everyone who supported us and took part in the contest. There will be another exciting contest in December with a great prize so do stay tuned for more details!
