Pre-College Global Scholars Program at Dulwich College Beijing

This 6-week program gives qualifying students exclusive access to college-accredited courses, as well as a variety of master classes, seminars, and summer study tours to the University of Notre Dame campus and other University of Notre Dame global locations, of which there are 12 in all. Upon completion of all four curricular courses, students not only get college credit from the University of Notre Dame, but will also receive special recognition from University of Notre Dame and DCB.
In
its pioneer run last year, the program boasted a humble five
participants, all of whom gave positive feedback on the experience. DCB
student Victoria H enthused, "All sessions of the Global Issues and Challenges course were
infused with excitement. I was personally empowered by the buzzing
atmosphere, where inspiring discussions about some of the most pressing
concerns of the world were eased.
"I would strongly recommend this program to students both as a crash course of international relations, as well as an enticing educational opportunity that can help train one's versatility and critical thinking skills as a learner in an invaluable college atmosphere."
This year, over 20 DCB students have already signed up for the extracurricular program, eager for the chance to interact with collegiate professors from all over the world in their classrooms.
The
University of Notre Dame chose to work with DCB as its pilot partner in
K12 international school outside of the US for its similarity in
educational philosophy, value, and mission for its student. And
most importantly, as Dr Michael Pippenger, Vice President & Associate Provost for Internationalization at the University of Notre Dame, added, "like the University of Notre Dame,
Dulwich College Beijing is really interested in creating global leaders
for tomorrow and educating people about being a global citizen."
Dr Pippenger, told Jingkids about the unique benefits of the program when he visited DCB last week, "The students get to be taught by faculty from around the world teaching their expertise from their global location, as well as benefit from a uniquely American style classroom that's highly based in discussion and seminars, (not to mention) our global network and reach. It's important for students to be exposed to different ways to learning trans-nationally and cross-culturally."
Dr Pippenger's visit hails good things in China's post-Covid times, as international travel and cultural exchange are slowly but surely resuming. His presidential talk is also a part of award-winning DCB Worldwise Academy Speaker Series, which aims to link students to the working world by inviting professionals to share their real-world insights.
Sharing the philosophy of "educating the whole person - mind, body and spirit", University of Notre Dame chose to work with Dulwich thanks in part to their already-established gateway here in the capital city, and also due to the two institutions' mutual mission and vision for its students.
As echoed in DCB Head of College Anthony Coles' statement, "Global citizenship underpins our mission to 'Live Worldwise' and act as a guide for our actions, a focus for the academic programme, and has become a compass for our culture".
