Build Your Fun at Legoland Discovery Center

LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Beijing has been around since 2019, and is certainly worth a look at again during spring break, going between 10am – 2pm on weekdays means nary another person in the whole place! It’s conveniently located inside Paradise Walk shopping mall in Changying district between downtown Beijing and Tongzhou, about a 40-minute drive from the city center.
A word of caution though, if you’re a LEGOLAND enthusiast. I’ve been told by my friend who has been to LEGOLANDs in other cities in China, namely Shenyang and Shanghai, that Beijing’s is by far the smallest and not quite as spectacular. For my kid and myself, it was our first time to any LEGOLAND Discovery Center in China and so we had a perfectly good time!
Check out our top 5 things to do at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Beijing!
1. Practice target shooting on Kingdom Quest
Once you enter the Center, you’ll go on the Kingdom Quest kiddy coaster where you can try to rack up the most points by shooting the bad guys and targets. The current high score, held by a 7-year-old, was just over 22,000 points. The four of us, 2 adults and 2 kids together, managed to rack up 10,000.
Pro Tip
Not all bad guys are created equal! Some are worth more points. Check the posters on the walls before you board the ride for more info!
2. Fulfil the LEGO lanyard quest cards to get a special prize
For an additional RMB25, you can get a set of quest cards where fulfilling all the quest requirements will win you a special edition clip-on. The quests include building specific objects like “the number of your age” or “something entirely red”. Then you take a photo as proof of completion. FYI, we didn’t complete the quests but were still given the prize at the end when we turned in our lanyard.
3. 4D LEGO movies
According to former editor Wendy Xu, the LEGO Studios 4D Cinema provides “15-minute 4D LEGO movies throughout the day. Wind, rain, lightning, and even snow will rush into the cinema; children can follow the LEGO heroes and experience the thrilling four-dimensional magical world.” Check the schedule posted outside to note the times of the different films, featuring your favorite NEXO Knights and Ninjago characters.
4. Build and race your car at LEGO Racers
Test your building skills by constructing a race car and compete against others’ creations on the tracks. Who will cross the finish line first? Ready, set, go!
Pro Tip
There are lockers both right at the entrance and inside near the LEGO racers building table.
5. Take a LEGO class
Wanna be a Master Model Builder? Then take the LEGO classes with the professionals where they’ll teach you first hand how to build creations of their own design! When we went, the Master Model Builder taught us to build a watering can in honor of spring. As classes are limited to 8 pax, you’ll have to scan the QR code on the board outside the class at least 30 minutes before to secure your place.
Aside from these, there are soft play areas for toddlers, an indoor playground suitable for kids up to eight, and a LEGO Friends-themed play area that pre-teens might enjoy. The LEGO Cafe on-site also provides simple snacks, meals like burgers and pizzas, and treats (can you say ice-cream and cake?).
The price of admission is RMB200 at the door.
I purchased my tickets through May Zhang for RMB160. In my opinion, that’s totally worth the 3 hours we spent there. Considering that you could technically stay all day from 10am – 8pm, as long as you don’t exit after you enter, I’d say it’s a pretty good deal.
LEGOLAND Discovery Center also has a dedicated party room and birthday party packages for the hardcore LEGO fans! Look up their WeChat Official account 北京乐高探索中心 (Běijīng lègāo tànsuǒ zhōngxīn) for more information.
