Switching schools is tough for many children, especially those who have been at one school all their lives like myself. I had attended one school my whole life until I finished Grade 5. When I finished Grade 5, I was informed that I would be changing to the Canadian International School of Beijing (CISB). When I received this news, I felt sad and uncertain. I worried about the quality of teachers, the curriculum, diversity, and whether I would fit in with the students or not. However, all my worries disappeared when I started going to school.

It was exceptionally easy to fit in with the nice teachers and students, and it only took a few days. Although it was easy to fit in with them, it wasn’t easy to understand how everything worked. I found it difficult to comprehend the curriculum at first since CISB uses the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and I wasn’t familiar with it. However, because of my delightful teachers I acquired an understanding of the IB curriculum and it became easy for me. I couldn't help but notice that my teachers were working very hard and I appreciated that a lot since, despite the challenges they faced, they managed to maintain their friendly and cheerful aura. I also observed that with their cheerful attitude, the teachers were full of creativity. We played numerous games in class that were fun and educational.

After a year at CISB, I came to the understanding that the school was incredibly creative. There were numerous creative events, such as the school’s socials, which were events where the school wanted kids to socialize with others. For instance, the school organized a Halloween Social for students, featuring numerous amounts of activities such as haunted houses and hide-and-seek. These parties were enjoyable as we played games with our friends and classmates. I made a few friends at these events, confirming that these social events helped students socialize. In addition to these socials, the school hosted numerous events, including concerts where I witnessed many students perform on the stage and enjoy themselves in front of a large audience.

These were fun experiences for the performers and the audiences, making them memorable events for everyone involved. The school had many events which were all fun and lovely but the biggest event for me was the school’s international food fair. The fair was an enjoyable, free-of-cost, and fun event where everyone brought their favorite or traditional food. There were plenty of games for everyone to play, as well as an open stage for anyone to dance or have fun. Additionally, there was a small lottery and a large crowd of people was present.

During my time at CISB, I had a very smooth transition. Everyone kindly welcomed me, and I enjoyed a perfect year where I made plenty of friends. Although it was tough to move to CISB it was a good decision that provided me with precious knowledge and cherished memories.
