It isn't very often that you see a Chinese tech giant build an app that specifically caters to expats living in China, so imagine our surprise when we found out that online hypermarket Yihaodian (YHD) now has an all English app.

Founded in 2008 by two former Dell executives, the online groceries superstore received its first investment by Walmart in 2011 and subsequently came to be fully acquired by the retail behemoth in 2015. Less than a year later though, Walmart sold Yihaodian to JD.com, China's second-largest e-commerce firm. Yihaodian's new owner quickly gave it a huge shot in the arm with a one billion yuan promotional budget, coupled with aggressive low prices to consolidate its position in online retail.

Having transformed the grocery buying experience for millions of Chinese people, Yihaodian is now bringing more than 100,000 selected items -- from fresh food to daily household necessities -- to expats, promising to deliver packages to your door in less than 24 hours.

Aside from being a massive time-saver, you'll be able to save a good chunk of your hard-earned renminbi too. Shanghaiist did a quick price comparison with some of the other online expat supermarkets for our most frequently-purchased household items, and we're happy to report there are some very significant price savings to be had. To top it all off, they've got regular deals and discounts too, which we're now happily using to stock up on stuff at the office.

Now let's take a closer look at how this app works.

English-speaking EVERYTHING!

From the user interface to product search down to customer service, everything is in English! No more fumbling around with online translators and sounding like a kindergartener!
