Why New York @ Shanghai Gallery of Art

Chinese artists Chen Danqing, Ma Kelu, and Feng Lianghong are the forerunners at the various stages in the progress of Chinese contemporary art. When they first met in New York in the 1990s, they launched their artistic practice, provided camaraderie to each other, and exchanged ideas about art. "Why New York" is the fourth exhibition by the trio of artists, capturing their artistic ideals, their friendship, and experiences of New York.

A.R. Penck: Will Sign Become Reality? @ Fosun Foundation

Considered one of the greatest contemporary artists of the twentieth century, A.R. Penck was committed to creating a new language for society through his painting and sculpture. By utilizing a unique vocabulary of signs and symbols, he sought to express the psychological structure of mankind. His work is a unique and nuanced language: what may seem simple and composed of primitive pictographs has a strong sensitivity and depth of thought. This is the first large-scale exhibition in the world after A.R. Penck passed away in May this year, and the artist's first major exhibition in Asia.

🕒 Until Jan 7, 2018
💰 ¥80
📍 600 East Zhongshan Er Road | 中山东二路600号

Kohei Nawa solo exhibition: Vessel @ Arario Gallery

Kohei Nawa is part of a new generation of artists whose work is helping to bring a more nuanced view of Japanese art and popular culture overseas, one that moves beyond the cultural stereotypes of candy-cute manga and anime. Instead, it is through Nawa's melding of 3-D modeling, traditional craftsmanship, and almost industrial-scale production that he exudes a sense of what has come to define Asia: a love of the newest technology, paired with a deep reverence for the possibilities of manufacturing.
