This week, an elephant made a pre-dawn border crossing into Laos before returning back to China a few hours later. Presumably, the animal’s stay in China was about to expire and it had to make a quick visa run.

At around 4:30 am on Saturday morning, the elephant was seen on surveillance camera footage hopping a barrier at a border station in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan province. After spending only an hour and a half in Laos, it returned and crossed the border back into China.

According to border police, the animal may have been looking for food. During winter, elephants tend to wander father afield. When not taking vacations abroad, they can also be found invading villages and trying to tip over buses.
