The number of those missing following the deadly earthquake that struck eastern Taiwan on Tuesday night has been cut down dramatically to only seven, while the death toll has remained at 10.

Nearly two days after the quake shook the tourist city of Hualian, toppling over multiple large buildings, rescuers are still searching for five Chinese tourists and a Canadian-Chinese couple, according to the latest statement by Taiwanese officials. Earlier this morning, nearly 60 people were feared missing.

Despite searching desperately, emergency responders were only able to find three bodies on Thursday. In total, the earthquake has taken the lives of at least 10 people — five locals, four Chinese tourists, and one Filipina caretaker — and injured 272 more.

Many of those people died in the 12-story Yun Men Tsui Ti building, which saw its first three stories collapse in the quake, causing it to learn dangerously to one side.

Rescuers have seen their efforts disrupted by a series of powerful aftershocks that have struck Hualien, including another 5.7 magnitude earthquake last night.
