Recently, a visitor to Sichuan’s scenic Emeishan learned why tourists are advised to conceal their valuables well from the mountain’s mischievous monkeys.

In footage posted to Chinese social media by Pear Video, a monkey is seen inspecting a wallet that it stole, reaching inside, and pulling out a stack of 100-yuan notes, which it proceeds to scatter to the winds while visitors gasp and laugh.

Apparently, unimpressed by what was inside, the monkey then drops the wallet on the ground, where another picks it up. The fate of the wallet and its contents are left unclear.

This kind of thing happens frequently on Emeishan which is populated by dozens of very naughty — and overfed — monkeys with an interest in the latest high-tech gadgets.
