Drunks celebrating release from jail, arrested for fruit theft

Two men were arrested in Nanjing earlier this week for stealing more than 2,000 yuan ($315) worth of fruit after a night of heavy drinking in celebration of being put on probation, according to The Paper.

A local fruit vendor reported significant missing inventory to the authorities on Tuesday. Surveillance footage from the scene of the crime showed the pair absconding with more than 20 boxes of fruit in a Mazda the night prior.

The two men had previously been apprehended for illegally electrofishing shrimp. The night of the incident, they were out drinking to celebrate being granted probation, police said.
