In the wee hours of Sunday morning, a German man was found dead at Found 158, a popular, semi-sunken bar and restaurant area in Shanghai, also known as the city’s “Laowai Park.”

Nearby shopowners told Knews that at around 4 am or 5 am that morning, they noticed police and rescue workers rushing over to the subterranean complex on Julu Lu where they found a foreign man who showed no vital signs and was declared dead at the scene.

Shopowners speculate that the man was likely drunk and fell from the top of a flight of stairs near an escalator, crashing through a sheet of glass before landing on the ground. However, have police have confirmed this speculation and no one was apparently around to see the man fall.

Here are a few photos from the scene:

Knews identifies the victim as a German man who was around 40 years old. Police are currently carrying out an investigation into the case.
