Goldfish can’t ride subway, so man dumps his on the floor to die

After being told he wasn’t allowed to enter the subway with his goldfish, one man decided that if he couldn’t take them with him, then they must die— dumping the unfortunate creatures out onto the station floor.

The bizarre incident occurred last week in Zhengzhou, Henan province when a commuter holding a paint bucket filled with water and a pair of goldfish was stopped by subway security, who informed him that animals were not allowed on the metro.

After trying to argue his way around the regulation, the man became furious and dumped the bucket’s contents out onto the floor before storming off to catch his train. Being creatures that require water to survive, the fish didn’t last long.

Oddly enough, this is only the second strangest reaction to not being allowed to take your goldfish on the subway that we’ve seen in China in the past year. Last October, a Xi’an man was detained after going into a rage when his goldfish were similarly denied entry to the metro. Once taken inside the security room, he tried to pull a knife on police.

Over the years, Chinese security officers have been known to be real sticklers to the no animals on public transport rule, resulting in angry commuters resorting to slaughtering chickens and cutting ducks’ throats on station floors.

Meanwhile, at least the man didn’t opt to instead chug the goldfish, as one woman did to her jug full of rice wine after being barred from getting on her high-speed train.
