Have you been laying off the booze because it dehydrates you in hot weather? Neither have we. But summer calls for drinks of a lighter sort, such as rosé wine, tiki cocktails, and something with ice cream. Thankfully there are three events this week to help us stay in an inebriated shape. Here’s where to go.

Raise the Rosé

Rosé is a wine that comes into force in summer (we think it should be year round) and this festival by online booze retailer First Cellars is putting the blushing drink back into our consciousness. Come taste six styles of rosé, from its classical home in Provence, France to New World examples from Australia and New Zealand, which will be paired with six canapés by Mexican restaurant Mayita. Think you know how to make wine? Then step up to the challenge at the event, where you get a chance to blend your own rosé and have it judged by a sommelier.

Thursday, May 24, 7pm

¥195 per person

Buco street party

Buco is a hole (literally, in Italian) in the wall of Italian restaurant Gemma, and they’re collaborating with Sicilian producer Naselli once again for their gelatos. Head to Buco’s street party on Friday for samples of their new flavors such as watermelon and ricotta, as well as limited edition styles including one created with Yao Lu of Union Trading Company. If you like both your drink and ice cream, then Australian bartender Hannah Keirl will be behind the stick making gelato and nitrogen cocktails.

Friday, May 25, 5pm

Free entry

¥25 per scoop*

Free full-sized scoops from 6pm to 7pm, small samples the rest of the evening.

Cocktail prices to be announced.

Rock and Rum

Rock on with rum in the summer of the 1950s at this event. Happening on Friday, new retro-theme bar The Hoy Hoy is putting on their Rock and Rum party featuring rockabilly hits and rum-based drinks by Australian producer The Grove Distillery. They’re doing two cocktails, the Jail Bird, which is served in a pineapple with white rum and Campari, and The Man in Black, a twist on the espresso martini with spiced rum and Pedro Ximenez sherry. Come dressed in your rockabilly finest and stand a chance to win a drink.

Friday, May 25, 9pm

Free entry

¥50 for rum and mixer

¥70 for cocktails

¥250 for the Jail Bird (sharing cocktail for 4 to 6 people)
