10,000 yuan reward for residents who come forward with symptoms

Shanghaiist Shanghaiist 2020-09-15

The Hubei city of Qianjiang has instituted a new policy of rewarding residents for coming forward about their coronavirus symptoms.
Anyone who voluntarily reports their symptoms to medical authorities and is then confirmed to be infected with the Covid-19 virus will be rewarded with 10,000 yuan ($1,420).
If they are classified as being a “suspected case,” they will receive 2,000 yuan ($285).
And, if they are neither confirmed nor suspected of having the virus, they will still receive a 1,000 yuan ($142). Also, as an additional bonus, they don’t have a potentially deadly virus.
Home to about 1 million people, Qianjaing has so far reported 197 confirmed cases and nine deaths.
It is not the first city in Hubei province to incentivize people to report their symptoms, though the reward amount is the largest.
The city of Shiyan has tried a different tact, rewarding residents with 10,000 yuan for reporting the symptoms of someone else who is then confirmed to have the virus.
