A South Korean man recently demonstrated one way that you should definitely not react to the coronavirus outbreak. The man from Busan had heard that banknotes can be disinfected by putting them into the microwave. So he gathered up a total of 39 10,000-won notes (amounting to about 2,280 yuan or $328), stuffed them in the microwave, and turned the machine on.Much to his surprise, it wasn’t long before the banknotes started smoking. He was forced to go into the bank for help. In the end, 33 of the notes were deemed salvageable, meaning that he only microwaved away $50.The report from local Korean media has found its way to Chinese social media where netizens noted that a woman in Jiangsu province tried the very same thing last week, putting 3,125 yuan ($449) into her microwave to ensure she would not catch the Covid-19 virus from the notes.
