Special Issue:
Food Waste and Ecosystem Sustainability
The special issue aims to improve the understanding of the impacts of food waste on health and sustainability of global and regional ecosystems from theoretical and practical perspectives.
Food waste has become a greatchallenge to the global sustainable development and it has been addressed in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 12 “Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns”. Anti-food waste Law of China was legislated in 2021. There is a huge ecosystem cost of water, arable land and grassland embedded in the life cycle of food.Substantial quantities of wasted food has indicated an ineffective provision and even complete loss of ecosystem services. The increasing growthof food waste will negatively contribute to the ecosystem health, which in turn will have impacts on the quality and quantity of food.
The purpose of this thematic issue is to bring together high-quality and original research on the systematic assessment of impacts of food waste on health and sustainability of global and regional ecosystems. The topics include but not limited to:
Methods and modeling of the impacts of food waste on ecosystem health and sustainability.
Case studies on the impacts of food waste on ecosystem health and sustainability at different levels (cities/countries/regions).
Policy instrument for reducing the impacts of food waste on ecosystem health and sustainability.
Submissions underpinned by various research methods, such as qualitative, quantitative or mixed are encouraged. Although empirical studies are preferred, conceptual investigations are also welcomed. We encourage submissions spanning across multiple disciplines and geographical borders.
