展览简介



“作为替代性艺术实践的自印本”将于2023年3月18日至5月21日在上海多伦现代美术馆展出。本次展览由上海多伦现代美术馆主办,施瀚涛担任策展人,厉致谦担任视觉总监,邀请参展机构/艺术家:桂林公园、香蕉鱼、小龙花、假杂志、51人、真姨书房、复印info、刺纸、木刻波流、无像、一树、btr、3type。

自印本作为一种艺术实践最早可以追溯到上世纪中叶活跃起来的印刷艺术和Zine文化,它的出现得益于制作简便、成本低廉,创作者以一己之力也能独立完成。在过去十多年的时间里,由创作者主导制作和传播过程、具有强烈个性色彩、形态多样的自印本作品已经成为中国艺术家、设计师及各类文化工作者所经常采用的实践形式。其中既有成组的插画和影像作品构成的合集,也有图文并茂展开的叙事性表达,还有的则包括文学性的创作或口述史和民间图像的整理。这些作品在形式和手法上不拘一格,内容也多与艺术家个人的生活、思考和感受直接相连,有的还体现出强烈而真切的社会关怀。

这种艺术实践也常带有集体创作的特征,并表现出丰富的叙事性和深刻的社会性。而本次展览所呈现和讨论的就是在今天的中国所出现的自印本艺术实践的热潮,也期望通过对于这一艺术现象的讨论,窥探到当代中国的一些文化和社会问题。

I Was Glad to Print This Sentence will be on display at Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art from March 18 to May 21, 2023. The exhibition is organized by Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art, with Shi Hantao as curator and Li Zhiqian as visual director, inviting participant institutions/artists: Grilling Park, Bananafish Books, Xiao Longhua, Jiazazhi, 51 Personae, La Maison de Z, info, Prickly Paper, Woodcut Wavement, Imageless, Arbre, btr, 3type.

 

Self-printing book as an artistic practice can be traced back to print art and Zine culture that came to life in the middle of the last century, thanks to the ease and low cost of production and the ability of the creator to do it on his own. In the last decade or so, self-printed works with strong personalities and various forms, with the creator taking the lead in the production and dissemination process, have become a regular practice for Chinese artists, designers and cultural workers of all kinds. Among which are assemblages of illustrations and video works, narrative expressions that unfold in graphic form, and literary creations or oral histories and collations of folk images. These works are not limited to one type as far as form and technique are concerned, and the contents are also mostly directly related to the artist's personal life, thoughts and feelings, reflecting a strong and genuine social concern in some cases. This kind of artistic practice also bears the characteristic of collective work, and shows richness in narrative and profoundness in sociality. This exhibition presents and discusses the boom in the practice of self-printing art in China today, and through the discussion of this art phenomenon, it is hoped that some cultural and social issues in contemporary China will be explored.

 

In the context of the 20th anniversary of Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art, and as the first exhibition of Twenty Years of Iteration project, this exhibition reflects our hope that we, as a non-profit academic institution, can always maintain an attitude and position of sensitivity and awareness of the art scene, and we expect that through our ongoing concrete work we can provide a positive force to promote the richness of contemporary art and cultural practice.
