Cover Story The photodetection performance of two-dimensional layered materials (2DLMs) in the shortwave infrared region is not satisfactory for practical applications due to their weak optical absorption. Zhai et al. proposed a strategy for designing shortwave infrared photodetectors with high performance by integrating metal-organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles with excellent optical absorption and 2DLM with high carrier mobility. The as-constructed MOF/2DLM (Ni-CAT-1/Bi2Se3) exhibited 2–3 orders of magnitude improvement in photocurrent, responsivity and detectivity, which arise from the synergistic function of enhanced optical absorption and photogating effect. The proposed device construction strategy demonstrates high potential for future high-performance shortwave infrared photodetectors (see the article on page 451).
