Cover Story 3D electronic mesofliers inspired by wind-dispersed seeds show promising potentials owing to the stable rotational fall associated with a low falling velocity. Zhang and co-workers report a fast-response shape memory polymer (SMP)-based electrothermal actuator that can be seamlessly integrated with 3D electronic mesoflier to achieve large degrees of unfolding, with a relative fast response (e.g., ~1 s). The on-demand unfolding of such intelligent 3D electronic mesoflier system, triggered by the processing of real-time sensed data, allows the mesoflier system to be capable of both low-air-drag rising and low-velocity falling by simple hand throwing (see the article on page 2309).
