Dear Students and Parents,

On behalf of all faculty and staff of the School of Science and Engineering (SSE), I would like to extend our sincere greetings to you and your beloved families!

As the safety of our students and colleagues is always our top priority, in view of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak, the University has recently decided to postpone the resumption of Term 2, AY 2019-20 classes tentatively to February 24th, which was originally planned on February 10th. Meanwhile, following the University’s announcement to kick start the online teaching effectively from February 17th, all current SSE undergraduate and postgraduate classes (except for experiment-based sessions) will be shifted to online teaching and learning mode before the physical classes are resumed on campus. We would like to take this opportunity to convey our regards and inform you the more detailed arrangement, as well as the available support to make this interim period running smoothly.

Online Teaching and Learning

Online classes will follow the same previously adopted schedule for Term 2. For instructions on how to install and use the system, please refer to the “CUHK-Shenzhen Online Teaching and Learning System User Manual (Students)” file sent via WeChat groups and the official email from the Registry.

Learning Communities

We encourage you to keep in close contact with your course instructors and teaching assistants during this period and turn to them for academic support at the time of need. Also, forming study groups/learning communities with your classmates will keep you supported and updated with what is happening.

Other Support

You may write to the School Office for support via the WeChat groups or our official email accounts.

At this moment, I want to urge our students to be strong and courageous. While learning to set up the online system through remote connections, please be fully prepared and committed to the upcoming course contents and assessment. Meanwhile, I also want to encourage you to treasure the time you could spend with your loved ones at home. We wish we could welcome you back soon on campus when the healthy issue is resolved. Stay healthy and stay connected!

Sincerely,

Professor Shuguang Cui

Acting Dean

School of Science and Engineering
