SSE Weekly Colloquium | 理工学院系列研讨会邀请
The School of Science and Engineering is committed to creating a platform for students and faculty members to exchange ideas and explore cutting-edge research developments in various fields of science and engineering. Starting from 2021 fall, SSE will organize the "Weekly Colloquium" series of seminars every Friday. Each week, SSE will invite our faculty members and distinguished guest speakers from outside the University to conduct academic seminars.
All students and faculty members are invited to join the weekly colloquium!

Abstract
Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is envisioned to be an important wireless technology in 6G networks. Unlike the traditional devices (such as base-station and relay) that transmit signals actively, IRS does not create any new signals but only reflects the incident signals from the wireless environment. This talk will introduce some intriguing math puzzles behind the engineering practice of IRS, along with a showcase of the use of IRS in the real world.

The Speaker
Kaiming SHEN received the B.Eng. degree in information security and the B.Sc. degree in mathematics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China in 2011, and the M.A.Sc. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Toronto, Canada in 2013. After working at a tech startup in Ottawa for one year, he returned to the University of Toronto and obtained the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering in early 2020. Since 2020, he has been with the School of Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen as Assistant Professor. His research interests include optimization, wireless communications, information theory, and machine learning. He received the IEEE Signal Processing Society Young Author Best Paper Award in 2021. He serves as an Editor of IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications.
