[NEWS] The Power of Play-Based Learning
Preschool age is one of the most important periods in a child’s learning. It is YCIS Beijing's mission to create a solid foundation from which a student can grow and become not only life-long learners but also active and fully-rounded individuals. In order to achieve such goals, we utilize a Play-Based Learning Programme, in which children receive multiple learning opportunities to practice new skills through meaningful activities within a nurturing environment.
Innovations in the Classroom
While success is bred through innovation, it is necessary to constantly refine and improve our methods in order to give our students the best possible learning environment combined with the best possible learning opportunities. To encourage our young learners to become more active and social in their personal learning and to find ways to creatively expand the uses of our newly renovated learning space, we have implemented a new morning programme called "Open Learning Session."
How It Works
As ECE Co-ordinator Maryanne Harper explains, "Children arrive as normal, unpacking their bags, changing their shoes, etc., but instead of our young learners going to their individual classroom for the normal beginning of the day, we let them choose activities between our open classrooms and central play area. In essence, we share one learning space and eleven teachers."
In this new programme, all teachers share roles and responsibilities in terms of resource preparation, planning, setting up for, and working with all our ECE children. "We are encouraging students to be curious explorers as we move towards more flexibility with these spaces, the original purpose of the ECE renovation that was completed last summer."
