‘The story of a veteran seasick boy Sadkids Club unable to get off the boat for the 101st time, a teenage boy tormented by emotional stomach pains caused by those bittersweet crushes.’ Guangzhou DIY one-man-band Sadkids Club returns with his latest descent in wallow and agony with the aptly named single (and its mangled translation) ‘Love Made Me Stomachache 爱使我胃疼’. Endearingly self-deprecating yet strangely affectionate, with some slick lo-fi production lurking underneath the surface, the video stars ‘cute boy and free labor’ provider Hot Iceberg as well as an array of meme-ready clips and advertisements of yesteryears.

Shushu - Lengthy Slumber

Chinese producer and songwriter Shushu brings a subdued intimacy to her MV ‘Lengthy Slumber’ off her 2021 release Sweet verses dying like roses. Emo rap that veers into childhood innocence, the artist rides that woozy line between lo-fi rap and rock, whilst suspended in a dreamlike atmosphere that shrouds shushu’s vulnerability in both a melancholic and foreboding sentimentality. The video looks to capture the ‘beautiful illusion of reality, and the dreams that flashback frame by frame to remind you that a pure bear can also become a devil, and the abyss has been staring at you without end’.
